Chuck Bradshaw’s Next Chapter
Written by Josh Hachat
Gainesville, FL – A police officer of 11 years in Belmont, Calif., Chuck Bradshaw retired from the force in Feb. of 2012 after a pair of
shoulder surgeries. The surgeries were so extensive that it forced him to immediately put an end to his sprint car racing days, a tough blow considering he had just finished building two identical sprint cars.
But the silver lining in everything was that it opened the door to return to drag racing. Needing to fulfill his continued need for speed even after a pair of surgeries, Bradshaw chose drag racing, and needing to get back in the seat as quickly as possible, Bradshaw chose Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School.
Bradshaw attended the March class in Gainesville, Fla., received his Super Comp license and is now counting down the days to finishing his Top Dragster and going down the track. “I was ready to go racing as soon as I got back,” Bradshaw said. “Going to the school was definitely worth it.
Fine Art and Drag Racing
Steven Andersen lived in Europe, graduated with a master’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Minnesota and had a life of
luxury in New York City. He worked alongside Andy Warhol, signed autographs and even had a book published on his work by the Minneapolis Institute of Art. After leaving New York City, Anderson even had established his own nationally-recognized print shop. But with all that, the 67-year-old Anderson could still never truly forget his very first true passion – drag racing.
More than 45 years after exiting the seat of a Top Fuel car, Andersen couldn’t resist the urge to get back behind the wheel, ultimately leading him to Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School. “I guess it’s just that addiction to the sport. It’s hard to get out and stay out,” Anderson said.
Andersen, who lives in Minneapolis and is a longtime member of the Gopher State Timing Association (GSTA), got back in the sport in 2005, rebuilding cars and dragsters.
But there was the itch to do more and, within a few years, Andersen felt the desire to drive.

Coddens’ See Parallels between Martial Arts and Frank Hawley’s Teachings
Written By Josh Hachat
Gainesville, FL – Andrea Coddens was simply excited just to learn from drag racing legend Frank Hawley when she attended the
prestigious Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School with her husband, Rob, in January. But by the time the memorable two-day course was over, Coddens ended up amazed with the parallels between drag racing and her other hobby, martial arts.
The Eagle, Idaho natives train in the Chinese Martial Art Northern Kajukenbo Tum Pai, which is a form of Kung Fu. An avid student and instructor for nearly five years, Andrea will test for her black belt this year under the tutelage of Si Gung Greg Hart from Hart’s Martial Arts. But while martial arts and drag racing may appear on different sides of the spectrum, Andrea noticed a number of similarities after two days at Hawley’s Drag Racing School.
