MORRISON TAKES BEST SHOT AT MAPLE GROVE RACEWAY’S NHRA READING NATIONALS
READING, PA – Joe Morrison was one of the busiest drivers on the property at Maple Grove Raceway during this weekend’s NHRA Reading
Nationals. The driver from Flemington, New Jersey, was racing in both Nitro Funny Car and Top Alcohol Dragster along with repping the Right2Breathe non-profit organization. Morrison qualified in Nitro Funny Car and made an impression with hundreds of fans talking about lung health and preventative lung maintenance. Morrison was the No. 15 qualifier at the end of four sessions but his opening qualifying run of 4.065 seconds at 310.41 mph turned heads and kept him in the show for race day. The near career quickest pass set Morrison up with confidence heading into a first-round match up with the reigning Funny Car world champion Austin Prock.
“Drag racing is an amazing sport where anything can happen,” said Morrison, who was driving Paul Smith Racing’s Funny Car. “To have a legend like Paul Smith making the calls means you always have a shot at winning. He has seen it all and knows so much about tuning these Funny Cars. I know Austin will be tough in the first round, but we are going to give him everything we can with this Penn Grade 1 Right2Breathe Funny Car.”
Morrison and Prock pulled to the starting line following an impressive burnout by the PennGrade 1 Right2Breathe Funny Car. Racing the No. 2 qualifier Morrison knew he would need a break from the defending Reading Nationals champion. Both cars launched and Prock began pulling away just as Morrison’s Funny Car hazed the tires robbing him of critical horsepower and momentum. He was forced to watch Prock make a smooth pass for the win as he crossed the finish line with a 5.995 sec, 120.55 mph run. Continue reading

FLEMINGTON, NJ – Veteran driver Joe Morrison knows that seat time is the most important factor to improving your driving skills and
making an impact with marketing partners. This weekend at the 40th NHRA Reading Nationals presented by Nitro Fish Morrison will be back in the seat of Paul Smith’s Nitro Funny Car as well as the Tom Pickett Racing Top Alcohol Dragster. The double entry will keep the driver from Flemington busy, especially when his responsibilities with Right2Breathe will also be in play for the NHRA fans all weekend.
“I never like to let the grass grow under my feet, so this is really a perfect weekend for me racing two classes and supporting Right2Breathe,” said Morrison. “We raced in Norwalk in Paul’s Funny Car earlier this season and we have had additional Right2Breathe displays at Charlotte and Indianapolis. I have been driving Tom Pickett’s TAD this season as well, so it is all coming together this weekend in Reading. This is my favorite track, and I have so much history here.”
On the track Morrison will be powered by marketing support from long-time sponsor PennGrade1 and new sponsor Lyons & Associates law firm. Off the track Morrison will be spending time with fans in the Nitro Club and on the NHRA Stage throughout the NHRA Reading Nationals as well. Funny Car’s Joe Morrison Brings Message of Health and Racing Passion to Week of U.S. Nationals
INDIANAPOLIS – Funny Car and Top Alcohol Dragster driver Joe Morrison wasn’t behind the wheel of either of his high horsepower race
cars this week at the 71st Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals but he was still turning on symbolic win lights for fans and his Right2Breathe Project. Morrison had a packed schedule, beginning with fan appearances on Thursday and racing all the way to today’s race day activities. The driver from New Jersey has competed at the prestigious drag race before but this year he put his focus on spending time with the fans and sponsors.
On Thursday night Morrison was one of the featured drivers at the Cruz Pedregon Racing Open House participating in a driver autograph session and fan meet and greet. The event has become the kick-off fanfest for the U.S. Nationals as thousands of fans enjoyed a classic car show and the chance to talk with drivers like Morrison and get autographs and photos. The event also raises money for the Indianapolis-based Riley’s Children’s Hospital.
“I was excited to get the race started with the Cruz Pedregon Racing Open House,” said Morrison. “They had a great crowd, and they were raising money for an amazing cause. I saw a lot of the people from Thursday night at the races this weekend too.” Continue reading
JOE MORRISON TAKES POSITIVES FROM BUSY RACE IN NORWALK
NORWALK, OH – The results may not have veteran driver Joe Morrison sitting at the top of the qualifying sheet or rolling his Paul Smith-
tuned Right2Breathe Funny Car into the winner’s circle but his weekend racing at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals was a huge win for the team. Morrison’s Right2Breathe® Project once again teamed up with the highly acclaimed Cleveland Clinic as well as the Allergy & Asthma Network, BluZone Health and the Kroger Health display, to present the “Put Your Lungs on the Dyno” Lung Health Screening Project. While Morrison was making four qualifying attempts on the track between rounds he was in the pits talking with fans about their lung health and living their best lives.
“I think we did over 100 screenings just on Saturday,” said Morrison, who has also been racing nostalgia Funny Cars and Top Alcohol Dragsters this season. “That is a huge impact. We had two pulmonologists from Cleveland Clinic here so the fans had the opportunity to talk to some of the best professionals in the country, right here at an NHRA race. The Allergy and Asthma Network did a type of testing for asthma called FeNO testing, or fractional exhaled nitric oxide testing. I don’t even have the total numbers so far. We really helped a lot of people and are helping folks live their best lives.” Continue reading
Joe Morrison and Right2Breathe® Brings Message of Health and Hope to NHRA Norwalk National Event
Flemington, NJ – NHRA Nitro Driver Joe Morrison’s Right2Breathe® Project has once again teamed up with the highly acclaimed Cleveland
Clinic as well as the Allergy & Asthma Network, BluZone Health and will be located adjacent to the Kroger Health display, to present the “Put Your Lungs on the Dyno” Lung Health Screening Project at the 2025 Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. The Funny Car driver from Flemington, New Jersey and Right2Breathe, a New Jersey based 501(c)(3) non-profit, in collaboration with a team of healthcare professionals and support from Sanofi Pharmaceutical, will offer onsite lung health screenings and education to the estimated 70,000+ fans and racers expected to enjoy the NHRA national event. Last year at America’s Racetrack Morrison raced and brought the message of early detection to NHRA fans at multiple events across the country.
“Right2Breathe® believes that people can overcome great challenges when they allow their passions in life to inspire them,” said Morison. “My dad was able to live well and enjoy his life despite having very severe COPD. We had 10 great years of racing together before he passed away in 2016. Our mission with Right2Breathe is to help others live better and live longer by getting diagnosed earlier than my dad.” Continue reading
JOE MORRISON HAS STRONG PERFORMANCE AT PEP BOYS NATIONALS
READING, PA – In just his second career start in the nitro Funny Car class on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Joe Morrison
qualified his Right2Breathe Dodge Funny Car and almost posted the upset of the race in the opening round. Through two days of qualifying Morrison continued to get experience manhandling his 11,000-horsepower Right2Breathe Funny Car that is owned and tuned by veteran Paul Smith. Through four rounds of qualifying Morrison entered race day as the No. 12 Funny Car on the property and a head-to-head matchup with two-time world champion and John Force replacement driver Jack Beckman.
“We were so excited to see this Right2Breathe Funny Car continue to make improvements on the track,” said Morrison, who has raced Top Fuel and fuel altered throughout his career. “I am getting more comfortable in the race car. These are not easy racecars to drive and with every run I learn something new. We came out and made some good runs on Friday and that gave the whole team confidence going into the weekend.”
On race day Morrison knew he would have to be at his best if he was going to try and get the round win over Beckman. During the Top Fuel elimination round that preceded Funny Car there were several upsets and the track conditions proved to be tricky for all the crew chiefs. Beckman and Morrison launched and were charging towards the finish line side by side. Beckman began to haze his tires and Morrison was pulling away from the eventual Pep Boys runner-up when the Right2Breathe Funny Car began moving towards the center line. Morrison was furiously working to keep his Funny Car in his lane, but at the last second the nose of his Funny Car clipped a timing cone for a centerline disqualification. Continue reading

“I love racing at Maple Grove Raceway. I got my first wins here at an event called ‘Geezers at the Grove’ in my nostalgia altered in 2009. It’s my home track, and I always have a ton of friends and family around,” said Morrison, who made his Funny Car debut at the Norwalk Nationals in June of this season. “The fans here are some of the best anywhere. Every year, people who we have ‘Put Their Lungs on the Dyno’ at past events come by to tell us how their lives have improved. Joe Morrison Set for Norwalk Nationals Nitro Funny Car Debut
Flemington, NJ – For NHRA Drag Racer Joe Morrison, there is only one thing cooler than the legendary pound of ice cream in Norwalk,
Ohio – and that’s driving a nitromethane powered Funny Car. And at this year’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Morrison’s cool meter is about to jump off the charts.
The longtime Nostalgia Funny Car and Fuel Altered pilot from Flemington, NJ will make his competitive debut in the ultra-competitive NHRA Nitro Funny Car division, driving for legendary Funny Car driver, owner, and tuner Paul Smith at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, June 27th through June 30th, in Norwalk, Ohio.
Morrison, who last competed in NHRA Top Fuel in 2022, wrapped up his NHRA license cross-grade process in July 2023 with Smith at Virginia Motorsports Park. This expanded his diverse NHRA competition license to an impressive 11th active class, ranging from Top Fuel & Nitro Funny Car to Super Comp and Super Gas.
However, the exclusive 1B FC grade is one that Morrison has been hunting for since he fell in love with the nitro floppers while attending events at Englishtown Raceway Park in his youth. Continue reading
