Drag Illustrated
Oksas, ‘Stevie Fast’ and Hord Impress at Day One of World Series of Pro Mod
MORRISON, CO – With $100,000 on the line, the stars competing in the third annual Drag Illustrated World Series
of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefiting One Cure looked to make an opening statement on Friday at Bandimere Speedway.
The trio of Scott Oksas, Stevie “Fast” Jackson and Rick Hord did just that, as each fired an impressive salvo to lead the way on Thunder Mountain.
The scoreboards were turned off as the Pro Mod drivers made three runs on Friday, but it didn’t take a trained eye to see that the two turbocharged cars and Jackson’s blown Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro positioned themselves nicely.
For Oksas, it’s a continuation of two solid days of testing, as he’s now made nine runs in his ’67 Shelby Ford Mustang he considered better than the previous one.
Underdog Role Suits Rick Snavely Fine as He Hopes to Leave Mark at WSOPM in Turbos Direct Camaro
MORRISON, CO – Rick Snavely knows all about thriving in the underdog role and he has a U.S. Nationals win to
prove it.
Now the West Coast standout hopes history can repeat itself this weekend, this time on Thunder Mountain for the third annual Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefiting One Cure.
Snavely will race his turbocharged Turbos Direct Camaro at Bandimere Speedway for the first time, but the Los Angeles-based driver is ready to pull off a few more surprises this weekend.
“This is it. You have to come here to this race,” Snavely said. “This race has been a major attraction. The truth is, we don’t go anywhere to lose. This would be an incredible race to win.”
Bandimere Speedway Top Sportsman Track Champion Gary Jackson Eager to Enjoy Atmosphere at WSOPM
MORRISON, CO – Gary Jackson has enjoyed great success at Bandimere Speedway, winning the track
championship in Top Sportsman a year ago.
He’s also the current points leader in 2019 on Thunder Mountain, but in his eyes the biggest weekend of the year takes place on Friday and Saturday at the Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefiting One Cure in Denver.
Top Sportsman and Top Dragster get marquee billing at the event, as the winners of the MagnaFuel ProStar 16 and QuickStar 16 Shootouts presented by Menholt Auto Group in Top Dragster and Top Sportsman both get $10,000.
It’s a significant sum for Jackson and his wife, Valeen, this weekend, but there’s several other reasons why this weekend will be time well spent at Bandimere Speedway.
Second-Chance One Cure Shootout Added for Top Dragster, Top Sportsman Racers at World Series of Pro Mod
MORRISON, CO – The third annual Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod, Aug. 9-10 at Bandimere Speedway
will also feature a $5,000-to-win One Cure Shootout presented by On Track Performance, John Low LPD and Corridor Collision, race officials announced today.
The all-run shootout is designated for drivers who don’t qualify for the $10,000-to-win MagnaFuel ProStar 16 and QuickStar 16 Shootouts presented by Menholt Auto Group.
Based on NHRA Top Dragster and Top Sportsman, respectively, the ProStar and QuickStar classes quickly became staples at the first two World Series of Pro Mod events.
The pre-entry lists for this year’s race, which is presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and will benefit One Cure, are made up of more than the 16 drivers that each MagnaFuel Shootout will accept. That abundance of cars prompted race officials to add a second-chance shootout.
Couldn’t Stay Away: Stevie ‘Fast’ Jackson Headed Back to WSOPM with Winning on His Mind
MORRISON, CO – Stevie “Fast” Jackson was already itching to get back to the dragstrip. A phone call from Jim
Whiteley on Saturday was the final nudge the star driver needed to return to Bandimere Speedway for this weekend’s Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefiting One Cure.
Jackson, the NHRA Pro Mod points leader, had begrudgingly planned on sitting out the race in 2019 as he honed in trying to win his first NHRA world championship.
But when it came down to the final decision-making hours, the love of the sport, plus lure of racing on Thunder Mountain in his blown Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro with $100,000 on the line, was too much to resist.
Garrett Advancing Motion Joins World Series of Pro Mod as Event Sponsor
MORRISON, CO – Garrett Advancing Motion, a premier turbocharger manufacturer servicing drag racers across the
world, will be joining the list of 2019 sponsors for the Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod. The third annual event, known as the highest-paying Pro Mod race in the world, will take place Aug. 9-10 at Bandimere Speedway, just outside of Denver.
The addition of Garret Advancing Motion adds another standout company to the World Series of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefiting One Cure, which will award $100,000 to the winner of the 16-car-field.
“Being one of the major turbo manufacturers, it’s always one of our focuses not just to manufacture the products, but to be a part of putting them to the test and sponsoring teams and working with the racing series that allow our products in the field to support it,” said Tim Coltey, marketing specialist at Garret Advancing Motion. “We have a pretty impressive group of partners that we’re working with and they’re really putting the turbos to work and seeing what they can do.”
Mick Snyder On Racing Top Sportsman At WSOPM: ‘It’s All The Stuff You Look Forward to At A Race’
MORRISON, CO – Mick Snyder has fond memories of racing at Bandimere Speedway, even if the lone trip to
Thunder Mountain came two decades ago.
Snyder, J.R. Todd, the reigning NHRA Funny Car world champ, and Aaron Glaser all went on a road-trip together with Snyder’s family to the Jr. Dragster championships in the late 1990s. They all pitted together at the end of the track, providing a last memory at Bandimere Speedway.
Bringing his wife and children with him this time, Snyder is after a new memory as he races in Top Sportsman as part of next week’s Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefiting One Cure in Denver.
The $10,000 prize for the winners of the MagnaFuel ProStar 16 and QuickStar 16 Shootouts presented by Menholt Auto Group in Top Dragster and Top Sportsman is a definite draw, but there was much more to Snyder’s decision to make the 11-hour trek to race his blown ’68 Camaro.
Winters Returning to Bandimere Speedway With One Goal: Win The World Series of Pro Mod
MORRISON, CO – It’s been two-plus decades since Doug Winters was last at Bandimere Speedway. While his
feelings about racing at Thunder Mountain haven’t changed, he needed a great reason to make the 1,600-mile trip from Kernersville, N.C. to Denver to return.
A $100,000 payday at the third annual Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefiting One Cure classifies as a great reason.
Winters will make his debut at the biggest and richest Pro Mod race in the history of the known universe, bringing a blown Bandit Big Rig Series ’69 Chevelle running as well as it ever has.
“I wouldn’t be going if I didn’t think I had a chance to win,” Winters said. “The placed is carved out of the mountain and I loved it. I always marked it on the calendar and I looked forward to going there, and I can’t wait to get back.”
West Coast Pro Mod Standout Ed Thornton on WSOPM Debut: ‘Not Going There to Prove Anything, I’m Going There to Win’
MORRISON, CO – It should come as no surprise that Ed Thornton is in the midst of another impressive Pro Mod
season on the West Coast.
But rather than chase a championship, the standout veteran is instead choosing the chance to race for $100,000.
Thornton and the turbocharged D Bar D Camaro owned by Derrol Hubbard will head to Bandimere Speedway for the first time, as Thornton makes his World Series of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefitting One Cure debut at the third annual event, which takes place Aug. 9-10 on Thunder Mountain.
Thornton has been his typical remarkable self in the Camaro in 2019, winning the first two races of the Xtreme Pro Mods West season. But with the fourth race falling on the same weekend as the WSOPM, Thornton had a choice to make.
Rick Hord Ready to Continue Momentum From 2018 Season, Cash In at World Series of Pro Mod
MORRISON, CO – The 2019 Pro Mod season hasn’t gone as planned for Rick Hord.
Four win lights on Thunder Mountain would change all of that. Hord will make his second trip to the DRAG ILLUSTRATED World Series of Pro Mod presented by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and benefitting One Cure on Aug. 9-10 at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, anxious to get back on track after ending his 2018 season on a great note.
That included a quarterfinal finish on Thunder Mountain, his first career NHRA Pro Mod win and a number of killer runs in his Xtreme Racing Engines Hemi-powered C7 Corvette.
That hasn’t carried over to the 2019 season yet, perplexing Hord and a team that includes defending WSOPM champion Carl Stevens Jr. in the process. But all of that could be wiped away with a memorable weekend in Denver.
