BRAINERD, MN – Cody Perkins and the 801 Racing Team’s first trip to Minnesota was an education. The valuable lesson they learned  at the Lucas Oil Nationals is that they like racing in Minnesota, but next time they want to go a few more rounds.

The learning process started out during Friday’s opening qualifying session. Cody and his 801 Racing sponsored Top Alcohol Dragster powered down the drag strip to a 5.41 elapsed time at 263.41 mph. This run ended up putting Perkins in the eighth qualifying position going into round one Saturday night.

Perkins’ first round opponent, Scott Palmer, was the recipient of the knowledge Perkins’s team garnered from a late night complete teardown of the motor. A 5.332 at 263.00 was strapped on Palmer, and it was an A+ run for Perkins. After the run, the team treated it as “business as usual.”

BRAINERD, MN – It has been said travel broadens the mind. Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster want to do more than just feed their intellect, they want to have their minds “blown.” This is why the team is traveling to the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway. The venue has a reputation as being a place that’s a little on the wild side.

“I have always heard that it was a fun race,” said Perkins. “I might head over to the Zoo and see what it’s all about, but we are here to race. The field at Brainerd is full of heavy hitters. It is going to be tough, and we want to step up and bring our best effort.”  To do this, Perkins is looking to the past.

“We are looking to build off the string of 5.30’s we ran off, said Perkins. “We have a consistent car, now all we have to do is keep it up. With a little luck, we will be there on Sunday making some noise.”

Kent, WA  – Cody Perkins had a few issues this last weekend at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle. The issue he is most proud of was running his career best time of 5.326 @ 264.86. The other little issues would have more of an effect on his plans to win the race.

It was during Friday’s qualifying that Perkins, piloting his 801 Racing Dragster, ran his big number to put him in the number three qualifying position. The whole team was excited with the 5.326 run and wanted more.

“I really wanted to run a twenty, said Perkins. “We were comfortable with our set-up and we were ready to set it on kill”

Perkins and 801 Racing Looking to Heat up Seattle

Kent, WA – Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster are not worried about a heat wave this weekend, in fact, they are counting on it. Hot track temperatures, heated rivals and giving a scorching show for the fans is all part of the plan.

“Hot and slick is our kind of track,” said Perkins. “The hotter it gets – the better. Earlier in the year we ran a 5.38 inTopekaon a 130 degree track, so we are pumped up for this.”

The Top Alcohol Dragster class at Pacific Raceways is also going to be tricky. A smaller entry list means the 801 Racing team will have to be on their game to advance come elimination time.

“It’s a stout field,” said Perkins. “It’s going to be tough to just get out of the first round.”

Salt Lake City, UT – It has been said everyone loves a parade. This weekend’s IHRA Utah Nitro Jam event will be a parade for Cody “Flash” Perkins courtesy of Salt Lake’s own 801Racing. Replacing the marching band and city street will be the thundering sound of Dragsters and the drag strip.

801 Racing came aboard Perkin’s race car this season and have been rewarded with a race win in two final rounds.  The IHRA Nitro Jam is a perfect showcase for the companies’ Pulse Power Boost product.

“The folks at 801 Racing called us on a recommendation by our friends and sponsor at CleanBoost Oils. The 801 Racing group wanted a hometown team in the Salt Lake City, UT area that were ready to race and had a family feel. Someone they could sit with and get to know. It was important to them as a family company and to keep it close to home. It’s a great fit for all of us,” said Perkins.

“I know I can speak for 801 Racing and possibly every race fan in the 801 area code when I say that we are all excited to have Flash home for a race.  It will be a pleasure to watch Cody put on a show in that beautiful 801 Racing car of his,” said 801 Racing’s John Hill.

Fallon, NV – Cody Perkins has put his NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster in two consecutive final rounds. Having won the Topeka, Ks Summer Nationals just a few weeks ago, Perkins was excited to be in another final round. It was also a delight to new sponsor 801 Racing.

Qualifying for the race was a challenge in itself. The track surface was tricky, and it proved to be a factor in the final round. Perkins faced series runner-up Chris Demke and the CleanBoost Dragster in a tough final round.

“We left first by .02 but it started breaking the tires loose about 300 feet out.” said Perkins. “Demke just drove by at that point and got us at the finish.”

This weekend’s race will showcase a total of two winning Top Alcohol Dragsters. Perkins and Chris Demke of the Clean Boost Racing Team both won their last race, and are the only dragsters entered.

“This will be a race to see who can get down the track, not who has the most power,” said Perkins. “It all boils down to one five second moment.”

Eight Pieces of Silver gives Perkins Kansas win!

Courtesy of 801 Racing

Topeka, KS – Cody “Flash” Perkins only had eight pistons for the entire race weekend. In fact, on the Monday preceding the race he had none. So how did Perkins manage to win the Top Alcohol Dragster title at the NHRA Summer Nationals?

Perkins parlayed those few slugs into consistent time slips and round victories. The newly sponsored 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster qualified 8th and in first round action got by Edwin Schmeeckle with a 5.55 @ 252.90mph. On Sunday, Cody lined up against #2 qualifier, Mark Taliaferro for round 2 eliminations.

“Flash” got the hole shot with a 0.033 reaction time and pulled away from Taliaferro. Cody continued to hold on for a victory win of 5.38 @ 262.59mph. For round 3, Cody got a bye and idled down the track to save precious resources. He faced Aaron Tatum in the final round with Tatum having lane choice.
