CHARLOTTE, NC – After spending more than eight months on the sidelines, Pro Modified pioneer Charles Carpenter will make his return to racing at this weekend’s Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod race at Dunn-Benson Dragstrip in Benson, NC.

“I can’t wait to get back out there,” said Carpenter. “Things have gotten very hectic and it’s harder than ever to find time to work on the car and to go racing, but we’ve put in some overtime recently to get things going. We didn’t touch the car from early October to about three weeks ago, so we had a lot of catching up to do, but I think we’re ready.”

Carpenter hasn’t been completely absent from the dragstrip. He has continued his tuning duties with multi-time West Coast Pro Street champion Randy Walker, and has recently assumed a crew chief and advisory role with noted Pro Nitrous racer Dan Stevenson. Working with those teams has allowed Carpenter to keep the tuning rust at bay.

“Randy’s new El Camino is a lightweight Pro Mod-style car with all the latest technology, and is built very similarly to my car,” Carpenter said. “Working with them allows me to learn what probably will and will not work on my car, and vice versa. I’ve also recently started working with Dan and his team, and they are wonderful people to be around and to work with. He has all the right pieces in place to be a major player in a variety of series’. We’re going to try a few of the things I’ve implemented in Randy and Dan’s cars on my car this weekend, so I’m looking forward to seeing if we get positive results.”

Carpenter is excited about racing in the fast-growing Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod series. Founded in 2010 by Virginians Stuart Williams and Karon Woodward, EOPM is the hottest new organization in the Southeast. With remaining races at Farmington Dragway, Coastal Plains Dragway, and Virginia Motorsports Park, in addition to their home track, Dunn-Benson, Carpenter and other racers in the region won’t have to travel far to find great Pro Mod racing.

“The EOPM is great because it offers good racing close to home, and that’s important to us these days. They had great racing all of last year, and it has continued into this year,” said Carpenter. “Their first few races this season have been really close and exciting, and I wished I was there competing. I’m sure the close competition will continue this weekend at Dunn-Benson, and I just hope we’re on the winning end of some of those close races.”
