Canada Day Spectacular Weathers the forecast and Crowns new Winners

CAYUGA, ON –  The DSE Automotive Sportsman Racing Series 2nd Annual Canada Day Spectacular saw a diverse mix of weather Wayne Sipos Wins over Tony Fabiano in Stefko Racing Engines Super Gas Saturday Finalconditions, track race lengths and finalists, as points races number 3 and 4 found their way into the 2013 record books.

Saturday started off  with bleak forecasts and  wet track conditions, however with clearing weather and a great deal of  effort from Toronto Motorsports Park track crew , the 1/8th mile was prepped and racing action began only an hour and a half after the scheduled start time. Saturday also marked the 2013 return of the Stefko Racing Engines Super Gas class to the race track.

Saturday’s Super Gas Final pinned Wayne Sipos and his beautiful 1959 Corvette against Tony Fabiano and his Super Gas Roadster. Fabiano had the reaction time advantage with  a 0.018 over Sipos 0.033, however the Corvette was able to run closer to the 6.40 1/8th mile index and squeak out a narrow 0.002 margin of victory.

Sunday saw  a return to the ¼ mile and an increased field of Super Gas cars, with some Canadian competitors who lost early in the NHRA Chicago National Event traveling to TMP for the Sunday festivities.  Saturday’s Winner, Wayne Sipos started off well by taking the pole position with a 9.912 and taking home the Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants #1 qualifier prize, however Wayne’s bid to become the first DSE Sportsman Racing Series competitor to double up, ended in the semi-finals with a close -.003 redlight.

Sundays final found Kirk Perry and his 1978 Ford Pinto, facing off against Vince Gregoire and his 1955 Chevy Belair. With both competitors having run very close to the 9.90 index in the semi’s the stage was set for a great final. Unfortunately for Gregoire, a -.001 redlight handed the victory over to Kirk Perry.

Racers in the Renegade Race Fuels Super Pro category found themselves falling victim to a familiar foe in “Bullet” Bob Jennings and his  2008 M&M Dragster.  Jennings bid for the 2013 Super Pro title failed to take the start he wished for at the season opener, with two first round exits in a row. However, he turned the early part of the season around by wheeling his mid 7 second ride to back to back victories, placing him just a half round beyond current points leader Steve Ferstl.
