BRUCE BOLAND SWEEPS $5,000-TO-WIN PRO MODIFIED SHOOTOUT AT LANCASTER
STONEY CREEK, ONT DRIVER WINS EVENT & TAKES #1 QUALIFIER BONUS
LANCASTER, NY – Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario took top honors in Lancaster National Speedway &
Dragway’s $5,000 to win Pro Modified Shootout presented by G-Force Race Cars and Resolution Racing Services.
Boland defeated Mike Stawicki of Medina, NY in the final round as he posted low ET of the event with a final pass at 4.13 seconds at 164.85 mph. Stawicki was quicker off the starting line, but experienced traction problems before reaching top end.
The event was a clean sweep for Boland, who was the #1 qualifier with a quick time of 4.52 seconds. He earned a $250 bonus courtesy of Grainy’s Automotive of Clarence, NY for posting top time during time trials.
In the semifinals, Boland took down Frank Malvaso to advance to the final round. Stawicki upset #2 qualifier, Randy Jewell, in the semis with a 4.55 second elapsed time at 150.06 mph.
An impressive turnout of thirteen Pro Modifieds were on the property for the event, and the competition to make the show was intense. The final pair in qualifying featured Stawicki and two-time world champion, Mike Janis, with both highly talented drivers still not locked into the field. Stawicki was able to bump his way on the last run, but Janis could not get enough traction to lay down a quick time. A total of twelve cars attempted to qualify for the event after Bob Bauer, Jr. experienced mechanical issues before time trials.
Lancaster also hosted a Box/No-Box Shootout during the Pro Modified event with a $1,000 on the line for the winner of each class.
Wes Cayea of Williamson, NY won the Box Shootout in his rear engine dragster over Doug Lynden. Lynden left the line first, but broke just past the 600-foot mark.
The No-Box Shootout came down to a pair of Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing regulars as Dale Eckert triggered the win light over Mark Santucci. Santucci was quick off the line with .509 reaction time, but broke out when he ran a 8.058 on a 8.06 dial-in. Eckert posted a 7.161 run in the finals on a 7.16 dial-in.
Drag racing action continues this Friday with the Buffalo Street Outlaws joining a full card of Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing.
