ACTON, ON – After some seasons racing his snowmobile in sanctioned grass-surfaced drag racing, Brian Roach is preparing his sled for his first year of asphalt competition in the new Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what happens,” he said. “It should be interesting.”

Roach will be racing in the Pro Sled division, which, along with the companion Po Bike division, will race against each other in their respective divisions, and the winner of each division will go against each other in the final to determine the event champion.

The racers will compete in ET-style, dial-in racing on a Sportsman ladder.

With a 1000-cc MRE 265-horsepower engine in his 400-pound Ski-Doo Mach Z, Roach is hoping for sub nine-second trips down the quarter-mile with his sled.

Sponsoring the Badboy Racing Team is Brian’s Truck and Trailer Repairs, with support from TGR.

“We’re hoping for some times in the 8.50-second range or lower,” he mentioned. “We have reworked the whole sled for the asphalt.”

Roach went on to say that building and maintaining a drag racing snowmobile is not an easy project due to the unavailability of racing equipment.

“It’s a constant battle,” he explained. “Everything has to be custom made in building and maintaining. With no local speed shop to go to, it’s probably easier to put a man on the moon than build one of these things.”

But with the help and guidance on Mike Thompson, along with Pete and Tiina Duncanson, Roach is looking forward to his first season racing on a hard surface.

“This is a great thing Bruce (Mehlenbacher, Director of the PBSS) is doing,” Roach said about the new series. “And after having to travel to the US to race before where now we’ll race at Cayuga and Grand Bend will be like going to work.”

Roach will take to the track for the PBSS opener May 20-22 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park for the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge.
