Bob McDonald preparing Suzuki for Pro Bike & Sled Series

Courtey of PBSS

WOODSTOCK, ON – Bob McDonald started his racing career on a motorcycle, then raced in several classes of cars, and has returned to racing a bike where he will be a competitor in the new Pro Bike & Sled Series for drag racing.

“I find it more economical to go fast on a bike,” he said. “It’s also easier on the wallet and a lot easier to work with a bike at the race track.

“And I think this new series will be exciting and let me go back to my bike roots.”

McDonald has raced for several decades, first on a dirt bike. He then went asphalt oval track auto racing, competing in the Can-Am Midget series, and then raced a Late Model at Delaware Speedway in Western Ontario. He also had a stint two years ago behind the wheel of a Sprint Car, racing on the clay ovals with the Southern Ontario Sprints.

Riding for Team 24 Racing, McDonald races a 2000 Suzuki GS motorcycle with a 1500-cc Suzuki engine sitting in a Raceworks Canada chassis. The bike features a five-speed gearbox and employs a Fast by Gast fuel system. The four-carb engine produces 230 horsepower for the 400-pound bike.

The PBSS will feature a qualified field of eight motorcycles and eight snowmobiles. The races will compete in their separate divisions on a Sportsman, ET-style basis, and the top eliminator of each division will race against each other for an event championship.

Crew chief for the team is Harvey Silverthorne, and sponsorship is provided by Lucas Oil and Wiseco Performance Products.

McDonald mentioned he has also been heavily involved in educating youth about the damages of substance abuse, merging his police career and racing career. He has been at the forefront on this issue, building and operating racing simulators at racing and other functions.

“I’ve been involved with this program for several years, and it is an excellent tool to get out the message,” he explained. “I have to thank my sponsors Lucas and Wiseco who also help sponsor the simulators at many community events throughout Southern Ontario.”

McDonald is getting his Suzuki ready for the opening round in the PBSS May 20-22 for the Victoria Day Challenge at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

“I’m getting my ducks in a row now,” he said. “I’ve got some changes to make on the bike, but I should be ready. I’m looking forward to it.”
