SYCAMORE, ILLINOIS – One of the world’s biggest and most popular names in motorsport instrumentation will be returning to the Pro Modified Racing Association and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series as a Contingency sponsor for 2011.

Auto Meter Products, manufacturers of a wide range of automotive and racing instruments, will provide contingency awards for both drag race series at all events for the upcoming season.

“We are pleased to be a part of both the PMRA and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series,” said Marc Erickson, Director of Motorsports for Auto Meter. “Both series have done a great job in the promotion of drag racing.”

Auto Meter offers its customers the most extensive line of technologically advanced, competition-inspired, and race-proven instruments of any aftermarket automotive instrument supplier in the world today.

“We are proud to have Auto Meter as part of our contingency package,” stated Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations of the PMRA and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series. “As the most respected name in high quality, performance aftermarket instrumentation, tachometers, and gauges, Auto Meter is the standard in the industry, and we’re very happy to have them with us once again.”

Started in his Illinois home in 1957, Auto Meter founder Vern Westberg believed that electrical and electronic applications to automotive instrumentation was the way of the future, and started the business with an electric tachometer. He pursued his vision, overcoming the bias that electrical gages were inferior to mechanical instruments, proving that readings with his products were more concise and with less chance of breakdown.

The business grew from a home-based mail-order enterprise, and by the mid 1960s Westberg had developed a new timing light and dwell tach as well as a diesel engine tach.

Always with an ear bent to racers’ concerns, around 1970 Auto Meter introduced its “Monster” tachometer, a precise instrument with a large five-inch face which gave the racer an easy and instant reading on engine speed. This tach paved the way for electronic instruments, and is a mainstay in competition vehicles to this day. It has been cited as one of the 10 most significant speed parts of all time in the world of racing.

Today Auto Meter not only continues to be a leader in automotive gages, it is continually providing state-of-the art instruments and data acquisition units for all types of auto racing.

Auto Meter also works with car manufacturers on OEM equipment for new vehicles, is involved with the motorcycle industry, provides instrumentation to the marine industry, and is a supplier of electric and electronic testing equipment for professional repair facilities.

Along with a contingency award to the low qualifier, the winner and runner-up at each race event, a separate award will be presented through a random draw from the list of qualifiers at each of the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series drag racing series events for 2011. These contingency programs are designed to increase the exposure and product sales of Auto Meter for race teams and fans in both Series.
