Fontana, CA – AUTO CLUB DRAGWAY announced today that they will be partnering with the SCHOOL of AUTOMOTIVE MACHINISTS (SAM) for the High School Summer Series contest throughout this summer at Auto Club Dragway as well as the Inaugural Southern California High School Drag Challenge presented by SAM on Saturday, May 3rd,  2014.

The program will kick off this year with the 2014 Southern California High School Drag Challenge on May 3, at Auto Club Dragway. High school students and alumni are invited to bring their vehicles to the dragstrip and compete in ¼ mile drag racing while earning points for their respective high schools.

If you’re not into drag racing your car, truck or motorcycle, a special Show & Shine will be held as well as a Stereo Sound Off and a Manufacturers’ Midway. At the events completion one California High School will be named “California State Champion.”

The May 3rd event will also feature 16 time NHRA World Champion John Force along with his traveling “Road Show.”  Force who signed on and is serving as Grand Marshal, signing autographs and even racing one lucky high school contest winner.  “Growing up right here in Southern California I’m thrilled to be apart of this program that’s geared to move the kids to the track. The scholarship from SAM is a tremendous opportunity as well as incentive for these students to follow speed limits and obey the laws of the road.  I have hired SAM graduates that have worked full-time on my race team and think this program offers a tremendous privilege for the kids as well as myself,” said John Force.

The Auto Club Dragway High School Summer Series presented by SAM will consist of four races throughout the summer, exclusively for high school students who graduate in 2014 or after. The Summer Series will offer high school drag racers that meet the criteria a chance to earn individual points based on their performances at the four Summer Series events, in a quest to crown a Summer Series individual high school Grand Champion. The first Summer Series event date is just one week following the High School Drag Challenge on May 10, the other three Summer Series dates are June 28, July 26 and August 23, 2014.

The overall Grand Champion of the Summer Series will be eligible to win a Full Scholarship to SAM’s Block or Head program with a potential value of over $16,000.00 contingent on the fact that they have no moving violations throughout the duration of the series (May 10 – August 23, 2014). SAM is a leading post secondary educational institution in the Automotive High Performance Industry. Top Race Teams and engine builders like Don Schumacher Racing, John Force Racing, Roush Yates Engines, Hendrick Motorsports, Toyota Racing Development, Richard Childress Racing and many more have hired SAM graduates.

“We are so honored to be a part of this dynamic program that will allow SAM to make a positive impact on the careers and tendencies of young performance enthusiasts, while providing a service to the community by offering an incentive to not race on the streets,” said Kim Klevenhagen, Director of Development at the School of Automotive Machinists. Klevenhagen went on to add “We look forward to working with the students and the rest of the community to provide a safe and fun environment to explore their automotive passion.”
