AUCTION AT NHRA U.S. NATIONALS TO BENEFIT IU SIMON CANCER CENTER
Indianapolis, IN – Fans attending the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway this weekend will have the
opportunity to participate in an auction of autographed racing memorabilia and unique items that will raise funds for colon and prostate cancer research.
The live auction hosted by the Andrea Pedregon Charity Foundation “A Spark of Hope” (APCF) will be held in two-time NHRA Funny Car champion Tony Pedregon’s pit and hospitality area following the last pro qualifying session on Saturday, August 31. All fans are welcome to attend and bid on their favorite items including team apparel, helmets, car parts and more. Unique items include a custom-built, handpainted motorcycle and a once-in-a-lifetime NASCAR Cup racing package.
Many of the NHRA drivers competing in the U.S. Nationals are expected to attend the benefit. Anticipated start time is approximately 8:30 p.m.
One hundred percent of the auction’s proceeds will go to the IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis for colon and prostate cancer research. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men in the United States. Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths. APCF has been rasing awareness and funds for the cause all year, with more than $20,000 raised already through sales of the 2012 NHRA Yearbook. The foundation will present the donation to the Cancer Center at the end of year.
Founder Andrea Pedregon said, “The auction will offer fun-filled bidding and appearances by many of the favorite drivers. It’s going to be a great way for everyone to help raise additional funding for colon and prostate cancer research.”
Pedregon founded the non-profit organization in 2010 to channel her passion for helping others who are affected by unfortunate circumstances. The foundation has raised funds for The Smile Train to provide 85-plus surgeries for children with cleft lip and palate; and supported Locks of Love, raising more than $20,000 to make wigs for children suffering from medical and long term hair loss and hosting a trackside venue urging fans to spontaneously cut their hair for the cause.
With the support of the racing community, APCF raised more than $40,000 for Melanoma research with the “Real Housewives of NHRA” themed 2011 calendar and the proceeds of the “Real Families of NHRA” 2012 calendar were donated to IU Radiation & Oncology for children suffering from cancer.
The APCF will gratefully accept unique items and donations for the auction through August 30. Contact Andrea Pedregon or call 317-858-9300.
