Alexander Seeking Continued Charlotte Success

CONCORD, NC – Funny Car driver Blake Alexander returns to zMax Dragway this weekend, where just a year ago the young nitro Blake Alexander Gainesville-BAR Photopilot raced to his first-ever Funny Car runner-up finish. Twelve months later, Blake still feels the excitement that came from his final round appearance.

“I’m confident that the Monroe Shocks team will have another strong outing at the Four-Wide race. I feel that I continued to improve as a driver over the last year since we went to the finals here. Combine that with all the data we have compiled with the set-up that was fairly new at this point in last year, and I think we have the potential to win more rounds here this year,” Alexander commented.

Racing out of the No. 10 spot, Blake beat out three former NHRA Funny Car champions in the first two eliminations before coming in second to Matt Hagan in the 2013 Four-Wide Nationals final round.

The part-time Funny Car racer was quick to point out the supporters who are making his 2014 season possible.

“I’m excited to have Monroe Shocks supporting me and the Paul Smith Racing team this year. Also, Wix Filters is located in the Charlotte area and this is their home race. It will be a great time to to visit with the Wix customers and employees throughout this weekend,” said Alexander, who recently relocated to the Charlotte area.

The Paul Smith-lead Funny Car team’s combination has been showing promise when track conditions are available and “The Bellagio of Dragstrips” certainly provides a grade-A racing surface for their 10,000 horsepower machine.

Funny Car qualifying at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway, April 11-13, begins on Friday with sessions at 2 PM and 5 PM and continues on Saturday at 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Eliminations kick off at noon on Sunday. ESPN2’s coverage of qualifying starts at 9 PM on Saturday, followed by eliminations coverage at 8 PM on Sunday.
