Alan Johnson Racing 35th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals Wrap-Up

Qualifying: Shawn Langdon was the No. 16 qualifier at the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals. It was AJRthe second time this season that Langdon started a race from the 16th position. Although he struggled on each of the four qualifying passes, Langdon was able to improve each time the car went down the track. His best attempt came in the final session, and his 4.025-second effort at 303.37 mph gave him the 16th position.

Eliminations: Langdon made his best run of the weekend in the first round of eliminations, but No. 1 qualifier Antron Brown won the round, advanced to the quarterfinals and later won the race.

Unofficial Point Standings: With the first-round loss, Langdon drops one spot to fifth place in the NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel point standings. He trails fourth-place Doug Kalitta by eight points and leads sixth-place Richie Crampton by 10 points.

Langdon on Atlanta: “It was a tough weekend for the Knuckle Sandwich/Bass Pro Shops Toyota team. We got a little bit better each time we went down the track, but we never found the right combination – sometimes you just have weekends like this. The good news is that we race next weekend in Topeka (Kan.) so we can get this race behind us quickly and move on. We’ll take this Knuckle Sandwich/Bass Pro Shops Toyota to Topeka, regroup and get back to what we were doing earlier in the season – going rounds. And thanks to Toyota for believing in Alan Johnson Racing and helping us compete while we look for a sponsor – we appreciate their support.”

Next Race: Alan Johnson Racing will be back in action May 22-24, 2015 at the 27th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals in Topeka, Kan. For additional information, please visit nhra.com. For additional information on Alan Johnson Racing, please visit alanjohnsonracing.com.
