Burlington, ON – In the world of motorsports it isn’t unusual for a team to travel thousands of miles to compete in an event, but for Rick Kopp and his We Install It Top Dragster team, this weekend’s trip to the NAPA Auto Parts North
Shore Challenge in Elliot Lake, Ontario, will be the longest trip they have ever embarked on.
Although it’s only an eight hour drive, the two lane highway and rugged terrain of Northern Ontario will present an adventure in and of itself for the Burlington, Ontario team. “We’re really excited to meet all the people and they are super excited to have us up there,” said an enthusiastic Kopp. “It’s going to be Canada versus the United States in a match race and of course Canada’s going to win!”
The event, which is sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts, will indeed have a U.S. component, with Dave Leverentz and his Oddy’s Automotive powered dragster making the trek from New York State in order to compete at the event.
“This will be my first time on an airport strip and that’s going to present some interesting challenges,” said Kopp. “But this is a great opportunity for me to represent my great sponsors in a market that we’ve never been to before.”
Drawing spectators to the 1/8th mile event has never been an issue in years past; with people traveling from the nearby town of Blind River and from as far away as Sault St. Marie and Sudbury to attend, and this year’s edition will be no exception.
Running from Friday July 13th through to Sunday July 15th, the event will give Northern Ontario residents a true taste of the best drag racing action the Ontario drag racing scene has to offer.
