YOUNG CELEBRATES FIRST WIN ON DAY ONE OF THE BTE LABOR DAY FOOTBRAKE CHALLENGE

BRISTOL, TN – Bristol Dragway roared once again with the sounds of footbrake racing as Coalburg Racing Promotions returned for the BTE Labor Day Footbrake Challenge. Drivers utilized a track-operated test and tune session to get dialed in for the weekend of competition before Thursday’s Gamblers Race.

Shortly before staging lanes were closed, an unexpected storm saturated the facility, annihilated E-Z UP tents, and added an extra creek to the upper-level parking. Anyone in attendance certainly understands that when it rains at Bristol, it pours, but as usual, the sun quickly reappeared, and the track surface was race-ready in record time.

The purse for Thursday’s Gamblers Race was increased to $4,000 to win, and 174 entries rolled through the water box in round one of competition. The single entry and no buyback format rapidly eliminated the field and left no room for driver error. Soon, only six drivers remained in the sixth round: Brian Cireddu, Daniel Young, Kyle Feebeck, Lucas Walker, Robby Mayne, and Cody Barnhart.

Quarter Finals

Two former Coalburg Racing Promotions winners faced off in the first quarterfinal pairing. Cireddu turns a four-thousandths starting line advantage into a win light when Walker runs five-thousandths under his 6.01 dial in. Barnhart launches with a .004 red light to advance Feebeck into the semifinal. Young is .011 on the tree and runs two above for the win beside Mayne who breaks out one thousandth at the finish line.

Semi-finals

In the semifinal, Young is .025 and runs dead on with an eight to leave Cireddu mathematically ineligible. Feebeck uses the bye run to get dialed in for his first Coalburg Racing Promotions final round appearance.

Finals

Young stages up for his second consecutive final round, looking to improve upon Sunday’s $20K runner-up at the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XVIII. All the anticipation is over at the starting line when Feebeck launches .012 red beside Young’s .025 green light for the $4,000 victory.

After stopping mid-track and reversing into the legendary Thunder Valley winner’s circle, Young reflects on his win during an interview with one of the event’s promoters, Jared Pennington. Young says, “It feels so good, I’ve been so close so many times…I’ve done everything but win it. On the way up here, I’m like, man, it’s gonna be hard to top last weekend, but it just kept flowing, and we ended up here somehow. I’m just blessed, and God is always good.”

Sunday’s unfavorable weather forecast has condensed the original Triple 15’s format into a two-day event. Friday will now be a $ 20,000-to-win race and Saturday’s purse will be $25,000-to-win. Weekend entry will now be $550, and single-day entry will be $250 on Friday and $300 on Saturday.

On Friday, gates open at 8 AM, and every entry will receive a time trial starting at 8:30 AM. There is still plenty of racing, money, and fun to be had on the mountain, so get here if you can, or stay tuned to see everything you’re missing!
