LANCASTER’S “COMMUNITY CLEAN UP” DAY A HUGE SUCCESS

VOLUNTEERS LEND HELP WITH PAINTING AND SPRUCING UP OF FACILITY

LANCASTER, NY – The Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway held a “Community Clean Up” Day on Saturday, LNS Clean up GroupApril 18 to help get the speedway grounds ready for the 2015 racing season. The event drew an impressive turnout of over 60 volunteers that painted, removed overgrown shrubs and picked up debris while enjoying a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.

The painting crews tackled several areas of the speedway, including the bathrooms, maintenance storage building, the entire frontstretch wall, the blast wall behind the burnout box and the area around the starting line of the drag strip. Grounds crew volunteers removed overgrown plants and weeds from the fence along the pit entrance road and the fence behind the grandstands. A third team of volunteers picked up garbage and cleared debris from the back of stock car pits and behind the banking of turns 3 & 4. Volunteers were treated to lunch from Franco’s Pizza.

“We were blown away by what was accomplished in just one day,” said General Manager Melissa McGowan, “even though it’s a small part of our improvement plans, it still made a big difference in the appearance of the facility.”

The team leaders in charge of the different areas of improvements were Grounds Manager Steve Skrobacz, Fire and Safety Team Manager Mike Myers and Business Development Manager Rob Kozak.

Following the day’s activities, many of the volunteers headed over to Quaker Steak & Lube on Transit Rd. for an after party to celebrate everything that was accomplished.

The “Community Clean Up” day is a part of the capital improvement plan that is currently taking place at Lancaster. Construction crews have been on site since April 7 making repairs to the grandstands, and several other projects will be starting in the near future. This is the first phase of a three-year plan to revitalize the Western New York racing facility.

The 2015 racing season at Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway begins May 8-9 with a two-day event for the Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing program. The Seneca Resorts & Casinos Saturday Night Stock Car Racing Series begins on May 16. Wednesday Cruise Nights at Lancaster start on May 6.
