ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV rider Arana confident about Atlanta eliminations
ATLANTA, GA – Making his debut at Atlanta Dragway, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Adam Arana has showed nothing but composure
throughout the first two days at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals.
Putting together four competitive runs over Friday and Saturday, Q4 proved to be the most ideal for Arana, who made a pass of 6.908 seconds at 195.14 mph, good enough for the No. 9 position. His ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Buell will be pitted against Matt Smith’s Buell in round one of final eliminations Sunday.
“I was able to pick up throughout all the qualifying sessions but not enough in the end,” Arana said. “Being No. 9 means I don’t have lane choice Sunday. At least both lanes at Atlanta Dragway are pretty good, so I can’t be too upset about that.
“We ended up having some troubles early on and had to swap motors out. We’re also struggling a bit with the 60-foot mark and not getting the setup exactly right. We will just have to see how it goes tomorrow, but I know I’ll be relaxed when I pull up to the line.”
While Arana looks forward to his first elimination rounds in Atlanta, he is relieved that he won’t be facing off against his dad, Hector Sr., in the first round. Thankfully though before Q4 ended, the scenario of a father-son face-off was diminished.
“I’m definitely glad that I don’t have to race against my dad in the first round Sunday, even though it would have guaranteed at least one of our bikes to make it to the next round,” Arana said. “However, if I had to face him, I wouldn’t have treated him any differently than I would anyone else. I would just focus on what I have to do and what’s going on in my lane because that’s the only thing I can control.”
NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series final eliminations will begin at noon ET, Sunday. ESPN2 will carry elimination action on tape delay at 9 p.m., Sunday.
