BELLEVILLE, ONTARIO – Placing fifth in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts Championship Point Award Series for 2010 was Steve Parkhurst and his popular 1955 Chevy Top Sportsman entry.

The Belleville, Ontario racer said he was pleased with his first season in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, adding he plans to get more testing in to sort out the car before the start of next year.

“We had a pretty good season,” he noted. “We didn’t break anything, and overall I’m happy with the Series. We’ll be coming back next year.”

The Parkhurst Motors Chevy is powered by a nitrous-assisted 704 cubic inch engine built by Redline Automotive which sits between the frame rails of an LJ chassis. A Rossler transmission and MagnaFuel Racing fuel system are also part of the package.

Parkhurst, who has been racing for about 20 years, said the team, which is crew chiefed by father Jim Parkhurst, has no major plans for the car between seasons, but added the team will make a concerted effort to get the car more race-ready before the first event of 2011.

“We’re going to sort out any issues earlier for next year,” he said. “We’re going to get at it and do our testing earlier.”

Sponsored by Parkhurst Motors, Castrol, Bull & Boar Smokehouse Grill, Redline Performance, Pro Racing Fuels and LJ Chassis, the crew consists of family members Suzie, Nathan, Rob, Brandon and Danial along with father Jim, who crew chiefs for the team with special thanks to Eric Latino who helps with their racing program.

The team finished the season with 1144 points, and was a consistent qualifier at all Quick 32 Sportsman Series events.

The best outing was a runner-up in the Top Sportsman class at the second event of the year, held at Grand Bend, plus several semi-finals the rest of the season.

The PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series winners will be honored at the “Night of Champions” on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at The Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
