Modern Racing Seeking Repeat Performances for McGaha and Castellana at Carolina Nationals

MOORESVILLE, NC — The last time the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series visited zMAX Dragway near Charlotte, NC, Modern Racing clients swept the uber-competitive doorslammer categories of Pro Stock and Pro Modified. The series returns to Modern Racing’s hometown facility for this weekend’s NHRA Carolina Nationals, presenting another opportunity for Pro Stock standout Chris McGaha and Pro Modified championship frontrunner Mike Castellana to score critical victories.

After slotting into the tenth and final position for the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship, McGaha is looking for a strong start to the playoffs in his Harlow Sammons Chevrolet Camaro. Meanwhile, Castellana aims to maintain the level of performance that has carried his Frank Manzo-tuned Al-Anabi Performance Camaro to the top of the J&A Service Pro Modified championship points standings. With just three races remaining in the Pro Mod season, a strong performance could put the championship out of reach for Castellana’s challengers.

“With this racetrack being right in our backyard, we’re very familiar with it and have lots of data to help guide our tuning process,” said Modern Racing president Justin Elkes. “We had an awesome weekend last time we were here for the 4-Wide Nationals in April. Standing in the winner’s circle for both Pro Stock and Pro Mod really illustrates what Modern Racing is all about. Hopefully we’ll be standing there again on Sunday.”

The Carolina Nationals follows a successful weekend for additional Modern Racing clients at the PDRA Drag Wars held at GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, NC on September 8-9. Leading the way was Pro Nitrous star Lizzy Musi, who reset both the elapsed time and speed national records on her way to victory. In the semifinal round she defeated fellow Modern Racing client Richie Stevens Jr., who was making a special appearance as a “hired gun” driver in the Al-Anabi Performance/Speedtech ’69 Camaro. Maryland native Danny Sauro, who takes advantage of Modern Racing’s turnkey racing program which houses, maintains, and prepares Danny’s complete racing operation and provides tuning and crew services at the track, also set a career-best elapsed time in Pro Nitrous qualifying.
