ORILLIA, ON – The Modfather Pro Sled team will be competing with a new machine in the upcoming Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products for drag racing.

With a 2010 Yamaha Nytro sled, the 1000-cc, four-stroke engine will be developing over 400 horsepower, according to team driver James Miller.

“We should be 400-plus horsepower,” said Miller. “We definitely jumped up this year.”

The turbo-charged Yamaha sits in a tube chassis setup of chrome moly construction, and utilizes a Proline suspension. Miller added the sled should turn times in the mid eight-second range for the quarter mile.

Scott Johnston is crew chief and partner on the team, and Miller said Johnston is a vital part of their effort. The team is sponsored by Modfather Performance in Orillia, Ontario.

The team will race in the new PBSS, which will bring competitors together racing on a Sportsman ladder in ET-style drag racing. The races will consist of the Quick 16, top eight motorcycles and top eight snowmobiles racing in their respective classes, and then a final event winner pitting the top bike against the top sled for the event champion.

Miller, who won his class at the 2010 IHRA Nitro Jam Nationals at the Grand Bend Motorplex, started racing sleds in 1996, mostly in the bracket side of drag racing, and said he is looking forward to racing in an organized series.

The first race of the 2011 season will take place May 20-22 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park for the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge.

“This new series is just great,” he said. “We will be able to run regular in a Canadian series, and I’m sure the crowds will like the bike-versus-sled format.”
