Elma, NY– When Mike Janis rolls his Eaton Aeroquip backed Pro Modified Mustang out of the trailer at the 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana it is sure to turn a lot of heads among Pro Mod racers and fans.

With its roots firmly entrenched in memorable vehicles like “The Bug”, Gary Ormsby’s Streamliner, Garlits’ “Swap Rats” and countless other examples drag racing was once the motorsport of “backyard engineering” and Indy was the place to bring your latest creations.

Indy was the race where innovations were abundant, every backyard engineer re-engineered the wheel and came to Indy to shake up the world but in recent years Indy has become less about innovation and more about marketing. Indy, in recent years, has become the place to unveil a new sponsor or paint scheme rather than the place to unveil a new combination. Pro Modified driver, Mike Janis remembers what is special about Indy and this year will debut a radical new design sure to cause a buzz.

“We have thought about our latest project for a few years. It was just always one of those projects we never had time to get to, said Janis.

“When my crew guys got together over the break and realized our car chief, Steve Hermann, would have some down time we put the plan in motion. Steve and co-crew chief Kevin Peters fabbed all the parts needed in house and put this thing together. Will it be revolutionary or a flop we don’t know yet. We’re going to Indy loaded for bear with no test time on the new combination. Kinda like the old days of putting your best ideas together and heading for the nationals hoping that you out thought and out worked the next guy,” added Janis.

Mike Janis and his Eaton Aeroquip crew will have four shots at cracking the tough 16 car field with the first on Friday, September 2nd at 4:30 P.M. Janis and the other Pro Modified competitors will receive two chances on Saturday at 2:30 P.M. and 5:30 P.M. with one final shot on Sunday at 1:30 P.M. before the first round of eliminations later the same day at 4:30 P.M.

The remainder of eliminations will be contested on Monday along with the other NHRA Pro classes.
