HAMILTON, ON – Since he started competing in the Pro Modified Racing Association seven seasons ago, Bruce Boland has raced a different car each year.

And for 2011, he has continued with this trend, debuting a 1941 Willys Pro Modified.

With almost zero seat time in the new car, the three-time PMRA champ not only established a personal-best run, but qualified number one for the PMRA opener held recently at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

His qualifying pass of 5.953-seconds, 235.47 mph put him at the top of the ladder when the eliminations are held June 10-12 for the postponed race.

“That’s the fastest I’ve ever gone,” he said. “I knew it was a good one. I knew the car was really going.”

The B&B Racing Willys is powered by a 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) engine, tweaked by Carl Spiering of Engine Research & Development. A PSI C-Screw-type Supercharger sits atop the engine, which is fueled by a new Rage fuel pump flowed fuel system with assistance from Jon Salemi of Resolution Racing Services. A Lenco three-speed transmission sits behind the engine.

The new car is a Larson Race Cars product from Missouri, and Boland added the car was used chiefly in ADRL competition before he acquired it.

Rob Cesario will crew chief for the team, and Willy Kerr, Dennis Veillette, Brad Short, and Ron Pierce will assist with the effort.

Main sponsorship is provided by Backwoods Excavating & Float Service, NGK Spark Plugs, and Pro Racing Fuels, along with A&A Auto Parts, Double D Construction, and Excel Motorsports.

“I certainly want to thank my wife and crew for letting me do this,” Boland said. “I also want to thank Jon (Salemi) and Carl (Spiering) for their help and tuning tips.

“I also want to thank Jim Oddy,” he continued. “He started me out in all this many years ago, and helped me out a lot over the years.”

Boland will be ready to take on the competition at the Xtreme Mayhem Nationals at Cayuga June 10-12. While qualifying for the May 20-22 race at Cayuga was completed, the eliminations were rescheduled for the upcoming weekend, along with a full program in round two of the 2011 PMRA season.
