DELAWARE, OH – T.J. Coughlin will have a new JEGS.com dragster at his disposal for the 2012 racing season. American Race Cars is finishing a 240-inch wheelbase rail that will first be tested in February at Palm Beach
International Raceway in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The new dragster will feature a wider roll cage and other state-of-the-art chassis components that will make the car one of the sleekest and smoothest in racing.
The car will carry the same 638-cubic-inch Chevrolet engine Coughlin used last year, with some modifications. The Sonny Leonard-built powerplant will run on alcohol and will be powered by a Holley NOS nitrous kit.
Coughlin’s dragster, which he plans to enter in several high-dollar bracket races, will of course carry the famous JEGS yellow paint scheme done by Todd’s Extreme Paint.
Coughlin’s team will take delivery of the new car later this month, where the JEGS crew will put the finishing touches on it, including wiring, installing the transmission, engine and all the accessories to make it meet technical requirements.
PSCA Future Stars To Debut At Vegas Season Opener

LAS VEGAS – The family that races together, stays together. Unfortunately in many cases, Mom and Dad may be racing their doorslammer at one track while the only Jr. Dragster league available for the kids is racing at another track the same day. To help keep racing families together, the Pacific Street Car Association announced Wednesday that two Jr.
Dragster classes (8-12 year old and 13-18 year old) are scheduled to participate in all 2012 PSCA shows. The Jr. Dragsters will race prior to and after the other PSCA classes at each event and will be scheduled as not to affect the flow of the other PSCA classes.
Exact rules and regulations for the two classes will be released soon.
“Several racing families have expressed an interest in finding a way to allow both the parents and the kids to participate in the PSCA events,” said Chris Blair, Las Vegas Motor Speedway vice president of racing operations. “It’s extremely difficult for both the kids and parents to race at the same time due to the demands of jumping in and out of one car while working on the other. With this format, the parents can focus their efforts on the kid’s racing either before or after a day of racing and make the weekend more enjoyable for everyone.”

VP RACING REFORMULATES THREE NHRA FUELS

SAN ANTONIO, TX -VP Racing Fuels today announced it has reformulated three of its NHRA-approved fuels—C11, C23 and C25. Effective January 20, the new 2012 formulas will be available from VP for dyno and track testing in 5-gallon
pails as well as 15-gallon and 54-gallon drums. The new 2012 blends also will be available for purchase at the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, but may not be used in competition at this event. Beginning March 7th, 2012 the new 2012 formulas will be permitted for use in competition. Use of the pre-2012 formulas will be permitted in competition until December 31, 2012.
The 2012 formulas will have a slightly higher octane and a slightly higher specific gravity, while the vaporization and energy content of the fuels have not changed. “We do not anticipate any tuning changes will be necessary,” said Steve Burns, VP’s Director of Research & Development. “Performance could possibly improve because of the higher octane and racers can expect more detonation protection. Pro Stock engines in particular have evolved since we first designed C25 and increased demands on the fuel. With C25 being a spec fuel, this reformulation will not change the balance of power in Pro Stock, but should help with engine life.”
