Mike Henry Back On Track

Written by Jeremy Gordon

San Francisco, CA – Mike Henry has been a tough competitor in every class that he has competed in including the Pro Slammers Door Car Association.  But, after he stepped his program up over the winter things didn’t go as planned.  He and his team struggled with the car and the new 773ci nitrous engine.

“I made 13 passes and had to keep it off the wall or pedal it on every run”, says Henry.  We saw him at Sonoma Raceway early the year and he was doing 2ft wheelies at half track.  By the 3rd race he was calling it quits after spending too much money and not making any progress.  We saw his car for sale on racing junk and we thought for sure the west coast standout was finished.

Surprisingly, we saw him back out last weekend at Sacramento Raceway’s Fox Hunt.  Not only was he back with his Camaro he also qualified #1 for the 6.90 Slammers class with a career best 6.91 at 198mph.  He then stepped it up in the semi-finals when he faced off with Ralph Willis’s blown 1953 Corvette when he clocked a perfect 6.900 at 200mph.

In its debut at Bruton Smith’s magnificent new zMax Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina, the ADRL’s DragStock event celebrated its ninth edition with the largest field of competitors in the association’s history and the largest spectator attendance of any stop on the 2012 tour. Regarded as “the Bellagio of dragstrips” by nearly anyone who has competed at the lavish facility, Butner reveled in a hard-fought victory over the toughest adversary of every racer at the event, Mother Nature.
