Kirk Racing Readying Two-Car Team for 2013

LENORE, WV — Fresh off a semi-final finish in the series debut for the X-treme Drag Racing League (XDRL) at Tulsa, Oklahoma, last Kirk XPSweekend, Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) veteran Doug Kirk is focused on going one round further and hopefully earning the event win this weekend (Apr. 13-14), in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Hardee’s Georgia Drags VII at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

“All of our races have been very close at the finish line, so I know our day is coming,” said Kirk, who won the first XPS race when it was introduced as an official class to the ADRL.

Goddard and twin-turbo Metropolitan looking to go quicker in 2013

GUELPH, ON – We are learning, we are always learning. Driving a 1958 Nash Metropolitan-bodied Top Sportsman entry in the Quick 32 Wes GoddardSportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts is unique in itself, but the twin turbochargers on the big-block Chevrolet engine have presented Wes Goddard and his team with a potent combination when all the variables are correct.

We are still learning with the turbos, explained Goddard. It never ends.

While turbocharging is not unique in the racing world, it is still relatively new in drag racing at this level, and trial and error is a big part of the set-up. Goddard’s custom Metropolitan car body is powered by a 509-cubic inch Chevy engine with a pair of 76-mm Precision Turbochargers that make a lot of power, in this case about 2400 horsepower, according to Goddard.

Pro Bike rider Dave Vandereyken returning for 2013 PBSS Season

ACTON, ON – Pro Bike rider Dave Vandereyken is hoping for more success when he takes to the track in the Pro Bike & Sled Series Dave Vandereykenpresented by Wiseco Performance Products this season.

We’re not doing too much new to the bike this year, he said, but also for this year we’ll hopefully go faster.

Riding his 1982 Suzuki GS1100E, which is capable of going down the quarter-mile in just over eight seconds at 130 mph, Vandereyken qualified for all PBSS events he and his Animal Racing Team entered in 2012, but had problems making laps.

We had some shifter issues last year, he explained. I’m sure we have those now worked out.

Troy Coughlin Jr. ready to chase big money bracket racing title

GREENSBORO, NC – After a successful stint of Super Comp and Super Gas races that culminated with a victory at the recent Amalie TroyJr-2013-SCNHRA Gatornationals, Troy Coughlin Jr. and the JEGS Mail Order team will now switch their focus to big money bracket racing during this weekend’s $50,000 Top Eliminator Classic on the eighth-mile course at Piedmont Dragway.

Coughlin will be driving his uncle Jeg Coughlin’s JEGS Mail Order dragster in the event, which features three separate races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, paying the winner $5,000, $20,000 and $10,000, respectively.

“I’ve had a blast racing in Super Comp and Super Gas over the last couple of months and we’ve done pretty well but it’s always nice to have a change of pace,” Coughlin said. “Bracket racing it a completely different discipline but so far I’ve been able to go back and forth and make the adjustment fairly quickly.

Draughon, Womble tops in loaded Super Stock, Stock classes

BENSON, NC – It was a busy opening weekend on the Division 9 trail as racers came out en masse to support the Raiders season opener Robbie Draughonat Dunn-Benson Dragstrip in Benson, South Carolina during a beautiful first weekend in April.

As the only division remaining with a single day of eliminations, southern racers enjoyed a full day of qualifying followed by an exciting championship Sunday with nine drivers left standing at the end. Winners during the Division 9 season opener at Dunn-Benson were Chad Duke (Top Sportsman), Gary Bingham (Top Dragster), Robbie Draughon (Super Stock), Travis Womble (Stock), Jamie Farrell (Quick Rod), Nick Womack (Super Rod), Dennis Hill (Hot Rod), Morgan Benfield (Junior Master), Nick Weaver (Junior Advanced) and Mallory Logan (Junior Beginner).

DeFlorian Wins X-DRL Inaugural Event in Tulsa

 

Tulsa, OK – X-Treme Drag Racing League made its debut at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park and Black Diamond Motorsports John John Deflorian - TulsaDeFlorian set the tone for the season in the Clean Coal Camaro with a number 1 qualifying position of 4.04 seconds elapsed time at 178.40 miles per hour then advanced though the field for the win.

In what proved to be the best weather for the weekend, DeFlorian took the number 1 qualifying position in his Clean Coal Camaro built by Jerry Haas Race Cars and powered by Sonny’s Racing Engines, in Saturday’s opening session .

DeFlorian defeated Black Diamond Motorsports Team Owner Kevin Bealko in the America’s Power GXP in the first round of eliminations. Bealko had the better reaction time but was unable to hold off the dominant DeFlorian hard charge of 4.095 seconds et  at 176.56 mph .

Total Two-Way Radios continues to provide radios for staff of PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS

 

TORONTO, ON –The Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series will once again be PMRAprovided with equipment for proper communications between officials by Total Two-Way Radio, the official communications supplier to the three drag race series.

These radios are essential to ensure proper operations during a race weekend.

We’re thankful and pleased to have Total on board with us once again, stated Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations for all three drag racing series. Our operations people are in constant communication and are able to perform their duties at one of our events much better with the help of the two-way radios.

He added that race officials including the starter, spotters, announcer, control tower, staging, fire/safety/rescue, operations, and media personnel will be equipped with the Motorola professional series radios.
