DeJoria’s Camry Rockets to Second In Funny Car;  Brown Third in Top Fuel In NHRA Sonoma Qualifying

SONOMA, CA – Alexis DeJoria continued her amazing qualifying run in Funny Car with a 3.898-second pass at 325.61 mph to qualify second in her Bandero Toyota Camry, while Antron Brown registered a 3.724-second pass at 326.71 to earn the third seed in Top Fuel  as the top qualifying Toyota drivers for Sunday’s NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

DeJoria has now qualified in the top two in five of nine races this season and been in the top five in 12 of the last 14 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series events.  After advancing to the finals last weekend in Denver, she is will be looking for her first victory since coming out of retirement in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. DeJoria will face Cruz Pedregon in the opening round on Sunday.

“Friday’s run was amazing. We missed the number one spot in our Bandero Tequila Toyota Camry by one-thousandth of a second. It was a great straight run. Coming off the mountain in Denver and coming here and putting down a great number like that tells you a lot about our team and what we’re capable of.”

J.R. Todd qualified 12th in his DHL Camry and will open eliminations with John Force on Sunday, while Jeff Diehl placed 14th and will match up with Matt Hagan in round one.

In Top Fuel, Brown was the second-quickest qualifier on Friday on the way to placing third overall. Brown enters the weekend second in points and can clinch his berth in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs with his second win of the season on Sunday. He is set to face Buddy Hull in the first round.

Doug Kalitta qualified eighth and teammate Shawn Langdon was ninth.  Kalitta opens up against Mike Salinas, while Langdon will face Clay Millican.

Sunday’s Camping World Drag Racing Series eliminations will be televised live on FS1 at 4:00 p.m. (ET).
