DeJoria Leads Toyota In NHRA SpringNationals Qualifying

BAYTOWN, TX – Alexis DeJoria ran a 3.912-second pass at 307.44 mph in her ROKiT Toyota Camry Funny Car to qualify second in leading Toyota in qualifying for Sunday’s NHRA SpringNationals at Houston Raceway Park.

DeJoria’s pass was the quickest in the day’s opening session and she appeared to be on the way to her fifth career number one qualifier before Bob Tasca narrowly passed on her in the second round.  Rain soon followed and DeJoria never got the opportunity to take back the top spot and was relegated to the second qualifier when the session was called due to weather.

She has now qualified in the top three in four of the season’s first five races. She will open eliminations with Todd Simpson on Sunday.

J.R. Todd also will start Sunday’s race from the top half of the field after qualifying eighth with a 3.994. He will square off with John Force in the opening round.

Antron Brown was the quickest Toyota in Top Fuel qualifying with a 3.749 at 325.22 mph in placing third.  He enters Sunday second in the Top Fuel point standings and will face Lee Callaway in the first round looking to score his third career Houston victory, the site of his very first win in the class in 2008.

Shawn Langdon placed seventh and will race Lee Callaway on Sunday, while Doug Kalitta placed ninth and has a difficult first round match-up with Brittany Force.

Sunday’s Camping World Drag Racing Series eliminations will be televised on FS1 at 6:00 p.m.

Quotes:

Alexis DeJoria, ROKiT Toyota Camry: “We had a really good run in the first round with a 3.912. At that point, we really didn’t think we were going to be able to get the second run in. It would have been nice to get another shot at it, but we’ve got a really good ROKiT Camry. We’re happy with qualifying second and we’re looking forward to eliminations tomorrow.”
