WORSHAM LOOKING TO BUILD ONTO PAST SUCCESSES AT SEATTLE

SEATTLE – Two-time NHRA world champion Del Worsham is hoping that his recent past successes at the NHRA Northwest Nationals will aid him in ending the Western Swing on a high note and propel him into the Top 10.

At the last race, in Sonoma, Worsham beat Matt Hagan in the first round. Unfortunately, he then lost to Jack Beckman in the second round. Worsham is still sitting at thirteenth in points, however he is only 29 points away from breaking into the Top 10, which is less than two rounds of racing. With three races left until the Countdown, the Top 10 is still very much achievable for Worsham.

“We have learned so much this season, and I’m really hoping to approach the Countdown as a strong, serious competitor. This season has meant so much to me and my team, and I really want to clinch a spot in the Countdown for them,” said Worsham.

WORSHAM IS IMPROVING AS WESTERN SWING COMES TO END

SONOMA, CA – Del Worsham continued on in the second race of the Western Swing with his Lucas Oil Toyota Camry Funny Car. The 30th annual Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway saw the 39-time Funny Car winner race to the second round of eliminations.

“We’re excited to have pulled ourselves out of that first round losing streak and are looking forward to what the last race in the Western Swing has to bring us. We’re continuing to try to qualify for the best spot possible to hopefully make it easier for us to make it past the first round,” said Worsham.

The 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car champion qualified 11th before defeating Matt Hagan in the first round.

WORSHAM STILL RACING TOWARDS THE COUNTDOWN

DENVER, CO – Two-time NHRA world champion, Del Worsham, remains optimistic that he will be racing in the Countdown, despite a tough first round loss at the 38th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. The event is the first race of historic the Western Swing, three races over three weekends starting in Denver followed by Sonoma, California and Seattle, Washington.

The 2015 NHRA Funny Car champion qualified his Lucas Oil Toyota Camry Funny Car in the tenth position, making for a promising match-up against number seven qualifier, Cruz Pedregon.

“We’re just trying to get down the track faster than the competitor next to us. That’s the only thing we’re focusing on at this point, in order for us to be in it, we need to win rounds,” Worsham said.

Toyota NHRA Summernationals Preview

HOME SWEET HOME – Three-time Top Fuel World Champion Antron Brown will be returning to his home track this weekend for the NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown. Brown, a third-generation drag racer, was still in a stroller when he first went to Old Bridge Township Raceway Park as a toddler. He began racing motocross at the track just a few years later and learned the inside-outs of the sport growing up watching his father and uncle race. He learned well, winning three championships and currently has the fourth most Top Fuel wins of all time – including a mile-stone 50th Mello Yello Series win at Englishtown in 2015.

WORSHAM TEAM STARTING TO GEL – When Del Worsham moved from Kalitta Motorsports to his family run Worsham-Fink Racing Funny Car team in November, it was inevitable that the rebuilding team would go through some growing pains. Approximately one-third of the way through the season, Worsham and his Lucas Oil Toyota Camry are making progress. After introducing a new Camry at Topeka, he has earned round wins at each of the last two events and has now moved into tenth place, currently occupying the final spot in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

WORSHAM BUILDS MOMENTUM IN EPPING

EPPING, NH – Two-time NHRA champion, Del Worsham, has officially left his first round losing streak in the dust, after making it to the second round for the second race in a row at the NHRA New England Nationals. Worsham moved into the Top Ten in points which if he can hold that position or improve would give the 2015 NHRA Funny Car champion the chance to race for another Mello Yello Funny Car title.

“It feels great. To finally have a car that’s going down the racetrack, and responding, and putting in some decent runs. It feels like this is where we want to be and we’re beginning to accomplish the things we set out to do when putting this car together this season,” said Worsham.

The 2015 NHRA Funny Car champion qualified twelfth, and beat the number five qualifier, Jack Beckman, in the first round. Unfortunately, Worsham lost to the eventual race winner Matt Hagan in the second round.

WORSHAM CONTINUES TO BATTLE MULTI-CAR TEAMS

CHARLOTTE, NC – Before the beginning of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello season, two-time NHRA champion, Del Worsham, left Kalitta Motorsports to rejoin his family-owned team Worsham Racing. Now he’s going up against the multi-car super teams as a single-car team that is still in the process of being rebuilt. This weekend, Worsham qualified 11th at the annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals with his Lucas Oil Toyota Camry Funny Car.

Worsham, the 2015 four-wide runner-up, unfortunately placed fourth in his first round match up against John Force, Ron Capps, and Chad Head. Ron Capps went on to win the race. This race marks the third time he has lost to John Force this season. But despite this, Worsham has a lot of respect for Force and the team he has built.

WORSHAM LOOKING TO START STREAK OF SUCCESS IN HOUSTON

HOUSTON – Two-time NHRA world champion Del Worsham is hoping that his past successes at the NHRA SpringNationals will aid him in beginning a streak with three 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series races in a row.

At the last race, in Vegas, Worsham lost to Matt Hagan in the first round. However, the SpringNationals is only the fifth event of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, so it’s still early in the season. For now, Worsham and his team are choosing to just focus on making their car consistent and reliable.

“I’m hoping with the stuff we learned in Vegas and the testing we did on Monday out there, that we made progress and that we’ve got a car that’s consistent in going down the race track. We’ll work on making it fast after we’ve got a car that we know what it’s going to do,” Worsham said.

LAS VEGAS – Last year at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway located 15 miles north of fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, two-time NHRA world champion Del Worsham raced to a runner-up finish. This year, Worsham is hoping to at least replicate that achievement at the 18th annual DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals, which is the fourth event of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

At Gainesville, Worsham suffered a tough first round loss to John Force, who went on to win the event. Despite this, Worsham and the rest of his Lucas Oil Toyota Camry Funny Car team is remaining optimistic and focusing on continued improvement race by race throughout the rest of the season.

The 2015 NHRA Funny Car champion qualified his Lucas Oil Toyota Camry Funny Car sixteenth, making for a difficult match-up against number one qualifier, John Force.

“The next goal is to just qualify better. I would like to make sure that we get qualified, and we can get ourselves a better first round match. With our current first round qualifying positions we’re getting tough first round draws,” Worsham said.

WORSHAM HAS GOOD RUN AT PHOENIX

PHOENIX, AZ – While two-time NHRA champion Del Worsham may not have gone as far in the 2017 NHRA Arizona Nationals as he would have liked, he is choosing to look at the bright side. The 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car champion qualified eighth, improving his qualifying position by four since the Circle K NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, two weeks ago.

“It felt good. Friday the car ran really well, it ran a career best for this team. Friday’s qualifying was on track with how we are trying to improve,” said Worsham.

Despite qualifying on the top half of the ladder, Worsham was bested by Robert Hight in the first round, after they each smoked the tires.
