“This was the second race in a quick three-in-a-row stretch to really kick off the summer,” said Hyde. “We’re now in the thick of the regular season, so I’m just trying to keep doing well enough to maintain a positive position within the Countdown.”
Spencer Hyde did not advance out of first round but heads to Bristol with positive momentum.
Three out of the four qualifying passes Hyde made during qualifying were solid, with his best pass happening during the second round of qualifying on Friday, a 4.001 second, 319.75 mph run. This was enough for him to be paired against J.R. Todd in the first round of eliminations.

SPENCER HYDE GAINS CONSISTENCY IN CHICAGO

CHICAGO – Spencer Hyde, the Canadian driver of the Head Contractors and Engineers Funny Car, continued to build consistency this weekend at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK. The reigning NHRA Rookie of the Year made his best pass of the season during qualifying, earning him a solid No. 5 qualifying position in a stacked Funny Car field.
“Three out of our four qualifying runs were handedly in the 3.9-second range, and when you can consistently make those quick A-to-B runs, that gives both the driver and team a lot of confidence,” said Hyde. “Now that we’re seeing more consistency, I’m hoping more personal bests will also be around the corner.”

SPENCER HYDE RACES TO QUARTERFINALS AT SOUTHERN NATIONALS
VALDOSTA, GA – Today at the inaugural NHRA national event at beautiful South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, Georgia, 2025 NHRA Rookie of the Year Spencer Hyde and the Head Contractors and Engineers Funny Car raced to a quarterfinal finish at the Southern Nationals. Coming into race day as the No. 9 qualifier Hyde, who is solidly in the Funny Car top ten in points, knew he would need quick times to have a long race day. Through three rounds of qualifying Hyde made two solid passes and one throw away run during a rain delayed qualifying session yesterday that saw race cars in the left lane struggle to get down the track.
“Everyone has to deal with the same racetrack but last night the left lane was a real challenge for a lot of the racecars,” said Hyde, runner-up earlier this season at the Arizona Nationals. “Our first two qualifying runs were solid but yesterday wasn’t super productive to get us ready for today. I felt good coming into the first round, but we knew we would need to try and hold onto lane choice.” Continue reading

SPENCER HYDE RUNS TO NO. 1 AT ARIZONA NATIONALS
PHOENIX – A year after a disappointing qualifying effort at the FMP NHRA Arizona Nationals presented by NGK Spark Plugs second year
Funny Car pro Spencer Hyde grabbed his second career No. 1 qualifier today at Firebird Motorsports Park. The up-and-coming driver who hails from Stratford, Ontario will go into eliminations with the quickest Funny Car on the property facing No. 16 qualifier Blake Alexander in the first round of eliminations. Hyde recorded his first career No. 1 qualifier at the Reading Nationals, the first race of the 2025 NHRA Countdown, last season. His No. 1 qualifier time of 3.979 seconds at 317.64 mph came in the opening session of qualifying and held up throughout the weekend.
“That’s kind of what I was expecting to be honest,” said Hyde, the 2025 NHRA Rookie of the Year. “I figured, looking at the weather and the schedule, we figured Q1 was going to be the fastest session. I was a little surprised Chad Green went 3.99 this morning. That was a good run they made. We are happy to make four good, solid runs in qualifying. We kicked the belt off there on Q4 about 700-800 feet. We didn’t make it quite the finish line, but it was still on a decent run.” Continue reading
