Marble Falls, TX – The Lakefest, SDBA season opener concluded with final eliminations day. Saturday set the fields, now it was time settle it out on the liquid quarter mile and who makes the right adjustments during the day as conditions change.

Change they did. About 15-20* temperature swing, especially during the early hours. Then, from what I learned, the density altitude changed almost 2050 making it a potential tuners nightmare. Plus the wind direction switched to nearly a full tail win.

Top qualifiers from Saturday were Mike Robbins(Top Fuel Hydro), Marty Logan(Top Alcohol Hydro), Marcus Kinsey(Top Alcohol Flat), Jeff Leuhring(Pro Competition Flat), Cody Childress(Pro Outlaw), Mallori Carroll(Pro Modified), Pat Hobbs(Pro Jet), Gavin Snider(Pro Eliminator)**changed to Quick Eliminator, Robert Anderson(Quick Eliminator), Matt Miller(Top Eliminator), Seth Walls(Modified Eliminator), Justin Stuard(Stock Eliminator) and Brandon Lempar(Personal Water Craft)

Top Fuel Hydro

Mike Robbins made a competitive run much the pleasure of the crowd who waited until the end.

Southern Drag Boat Association Season Opener Qualifying

By JM Hallas

Marble Falls, TX – Time to let the spray fly. After a Thursday meet and greet at Putter & Gutters, Friday show and shine, it was time for the Southern Drag Boat Association season opener on the “liquid quarter mile”.

Despite an iffy forecast, the rain stayed well away from the course and the wind cooperated for the most part with only a couple stoppages for unsafe water conditions.

It was a safe day on the track with the only causalities being parts and pieces, though some were internal. Speaking of pieces, it was mentioned the Kebin Kinsley’s Top Fuel Hydro arrived at the track in pieces with the crew thrashing on it through Friday and Saturday, but not done in time to make a qualifying pass.

Here’s a quick review of the 2021 SDBA points champions to see how they fare during the beginning of 2022 campaign.

By JM Hallas

Marble Falls, TX – Normally I preview Lakefest with, “If it’s August and 100 degrees….” Looked at the calendar and it’s only May, but still forecast to be around 100. So, do the drag boats bring these temperatures?

This year, as part of Lakefest 2022, the party begins not only three months earlier in the year, but a day earlier, Thursday, May 19th at Putters & Gutters in Marble Falls with ‘Boats and Bowling.’ Ten Southern Drag Boat Association(SDBA) racers will be on hand for a meet and greet between 4-7pm.

Friday, May 20th things get going at Johnson Park as the SDBA kicks off their season and starts filling the pit area readying for qualification runs beginning Saturday morning. Friday evening between 5-8pm is the annual ‘Show and Shine’ were the drivers show off this year’s version of their rides. You can also get up close with these water rockets and talk to your favorite drivers.

Marble Falls, TX – After Friday nights ‘Show-n-Shine’, were drivers and teams showed off their rides, it was time to set the fields for the Southern Drag Boat Association event on Lake Marble Falls.

It’s been three years of waiting for fans to hear the roar and feel thunder of these high-powered, highly sophisticated machines in the Pro classes and Sportsman ranks as it echos through the valley.

Coming into this weekend’s event many of the points leaders were in action, some being local racers bringing in their hordes of fans and family to watch them compete on the liquid quarter mile course on Lake Marble Falls.

Former Pro Mod racer, Marty Logan(Livin’ tha Dream) holds the points lead in Top Alcohol Hydro. Top Alcohol Flats sees Bill Diaz(War Party Rides On) on top. In Pro Jet it’s Tim Ortiz(F-Bomb) leading the way. The Pro Mods come into action with Greg Lempar(Anger Management). Pro Outlaw points shake out with Eric Dement(Real Bad Boy) leading.
