Maggio Motorsports Plans For an Even Bigger ’12 PSCA Season

Courtesy of PSCA

LAS VEGAS, NV – It’s hard for a race team to have higher expectations for the 2012 Pacific Street Car Association series when the ’11 season ended with them hoisting the PSCA Pro Street championship, but that’s exactly what Maggio Motorsports is planning.

A year that saw the San Dimas, Calif.-based team earn a Wally by winning the WCOPMA/NHRA Division 7 drags at Infineon Speedway in Somona, Calif. by setting a new ET record (5.849 seconds) as well as the speed record record (251.91 mph), set PSCA records for ET and speed twice (currently 5.973 seconds and 245.54 mph, respectively), earn the 2011 Super Chevy championship at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and be featured on the cover of Drag Illustrated in July is a season to remember.

“Looking back on the Maggio Motorsports 2011 season is a true pleasure,” Maggio Motorsports Owner Mike Maggio said. “We have so much to be thankful for and proud of.”

PSCA Future Stars To Debut At Vegas Season Opener

Courtesy of PSCA

LAS VEGAS – The family that races together, stays together. Unfortunately in many cases, Mom and Dad may be racing their doorslammer at one track while the only Jr. Dragster league available for the kids is racing at another track the same day. To help keep racing families together, the Pacific Street Car Association announced Wednesday that two Jr. Dragster classes (8-12 year old and 13-18 year old) are scheduled to participate in all 2012 PSCA shows. The Jr. Dragsters will race prior to and after the other PSCA classes at each event and will be scheduled as not to affect the flow of the other PSCA classes.

Exact rules and regulations for the two classes will be released soon.

“Several racing families have expressed an interest in finding a way to allow both the parents and the kids to participate in the PSCA events,” said Chris Blair, Las Vegas Motor Speedway vice president of racing operations.  “It’s extremely difficult for both the kids and parents to race at the same time due to the demands of jumping in and out of one car while working on the other.  With this format, the parents can focus their efforts on the kid’s racing either before or after a day of racing and make the weekend more enjoyable for everyone.”

Walker to Debut Radical New El Camino in Vegas

Courtesy of Walker Racing

LAS VEGAS, NV – After starting with an actual 1974 El Camino production car and modifying it into a low 6-second, 230 MPH Pro Street machine over the course of two decades, Randy Walker was long overdue for a new ride.

He’s taken care of that situation in a big way with a radical new ’74 El Camino from Matheis Race Cars. After a round-the-clock thrash to finish the car and transport it from the St. Louis, MO area to Las Vegas, Walker and the Walker Racing Group will debut the car at this weekend’s Super Chevy / PSCA Pro Street combo event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“We’re on the road to Las Vegas now, and will arrive sometime Friday,” said Randy Walker. “We drove from Palm Springs, CA to St. Louis and arrived on Saturday, and we’ve been working with Rob Matheis to put the finishing touches on the car. We’re driving nonstop back to Vegas right now, but we’ll be there racing this weekend.”

Goodguys Racing Full on at PSCA Vegas Event!

Courtesy of Goodguys Racing

Pleasanton, CA – The Goodguys Racing team subscribes whole heartedly to the old adage “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

After a tumultuous 9-month rebuilding process following a freak accident last September, the team’s Pro Mod ’69 Camaro “Pure Hell 2” driven by Marc Meadors made its 2011 debut last weekend at the PSCA-K & N Filters “Racin’ 4 Jason” Nationals at the Strip @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The team’s new look and new engine combination paid immediate dividends!

After sitting out the first two Pro Street qualifying sessions with a transmission gremlin, Pure Hell2 made its one and only qualifying run count in the “last chance” session, clicking off an effortless 6.09 @ 237mph to land in the #2 spot on the eliminations ladder.
