LAS VEGAS—Aaron Wells from Oklahoma City, Okla., earned the Precision Turbo Pro Mod victory with his ’67 Shelby at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the finals of the COMP Cams Street Car Super Nationals 15 Presented by FuelTech. The No. 5 qualifier beat Randy Merick with an incredible lap of 5.522 seconds at 266.42 mph over Merick’s 6.005 seconds at 181.54.
Justin Jones, the class top qualifier with a supercharger track record 5.518-second lap, went out in E2 after a red light & centerline-crossing wheelstand put him on the truck early.
“We knew we had a good race car, we were just chipping away at it,” Wells said with a huge smile from the Winner’s Circle. “It’s the first time in the quarter mile for us in this car and I knew we needed to take it one step at a time and keep working on it. If I just had another pass, we’d turn it up a little more. It’s been a good time. I always say you can’t win from No. 1, so it didn’t scare me not to be No. 1 qualifier.
Denver, CO — The Premier Street Car Association has provided fantastic, heads-up racing across the nation for 20 years. Slow down? Rest on past successes? Never. The third decade of PSCA’s unique brand of grassroots motorsports kicks off this summer at the legendary Bandimere Speedway with the MagnaFuel Rocky Mountain Summer Series. The three events (July 6-7, Aug. 17, and Sept. 13-14) feature six heads-up, small-tire classes including two recently-added import classes.
PSCA’s summertime racing isn’t limited to the Denver area. Street Car Super Nationals: Anarchy at the Arch 6 returns to World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway (former Gateway Motorsports Park) outside St. Louis Aug. 1-3. Returning to the Gateway City, PSCA is bringing the heat with three radial small-tire classes, 6.0 index, Jr. Dragsters, the Mid-West Pro Mod Series, and the Nostalgia Drag Racing League.
MADISON, IL — The Premier Street Car Association comes to the St. Louis area this weekend for Heads-Up Hootenanny, an event featuring some of the best straight-up drag racing in the country. It’s the fourth running of the event at World Wide Technology Raceway Park at Gateway as the PSCA continues its relationship with the NHRA-sanctioned drag strip. Also in attendance for the second-straight year is the Mid-West Pro Mod Series.
Kicking off Friday when the gates open at 8 a.m., this year’s Heads-Up Hootenanny is paired up with Gateway’s Super Chevy Show, setting up a drag racing enthusiast’s dream weekend with near-perfect weather conditions. Headlining the race for PSCA is Vortech Superchargers Outlaw 8.5, an eighth-mile class that brings the excitement every time they stage.
Heads-Up Hootenanny isn’t the only PSCA race on the schedule this weekend. Two time zones away at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, MuscleCars at the Strip at Las Vegas is also providing race fans with a slice of Americana and a viewing of PSCA’s small-tire, no-time class.
ST LOUIS – This weekend, to celebrate what makes America great as we remember those no longer with us, the Premier Street Car Association and the Mid-West Pro Mod Series takes over Gateway Motorsports Park just across the river from St. Louis for the return of Heads-Up Hootenanny this Friday and Saturday.
The NHRA-sanctioned drag strip has hosted numerous PSCA events previously and is one of the best-prepped tracks in the country when it comes to the lack of predictability of Pro Mod racing. PSCA President Mel Roth and the PSCA have shattered numerous records at Gateway and doesn’t see that trend stopping this weekend.
“Chris Blair, Curtis Francois, and the amazing drag crew here consistently give us an incredible racing surface,” Roth said. “We’ve been here when the weather conditions are fighting us, trying to take the track away, and the track guys just keep giving us a track that was better than before. That rep goes a long way. The best drag strips attract the best drag racers and when you have the best, people want in on it. We’ve got a 235 guy coming all the way from Copenhagen! That’s what racing at Gateway is about; knowing no matter what happens, our guys are going to be treated like NHRA champions and get the same racing surface they get.”
After inclement weather forced its postponement in April, the Premier Street Car Association returns to Gateway Motorsports Park June 30-July 1 for the second running of Heads-Up Hootenanny. At a track already legendary to both fans and racers for its amazing racing year ’round, drag racing supporters won’t want to miss this amazing event under the lights featuring the cars and stars of the small-tire radial world and the Midwest Pro Mod Association.
Pit gates open at 11 a.m. local time Thursday, June 29 for a VP Racing Fuels-sponsored test session that is scheduled to run 5-11 p.m. with qualifying kicking off Friday at 4 p.m. For the full weekend schedule, click HERE.
