HEARTLAND PARK HOSTS WEST CENTRAL DIVISION DOUBLE-HEADER WEEKEND 

TOPEKA, KS – The NHRA West Central division’s Double-Header Weekend presented by Aeromotive takes place at Heartland Park Topeka on July 27- 30. The double-header is two of six events in the NHRA West Central division and part of the 45 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships, as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman, Fineline Graphics & Madcap Racing Top Dragster and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series are also in competition.

MANDELLA, LAMB, MCCLANAHAN COLLECT WINS IN SONOMA

SONOMA, CA – Tony Mandella, Justin Lamb, and Brian McClanahan grabbed wins at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at Sonoma Raceway presented by Korbel.

Mandella of Eastvale, Calif., ran down Ryan Warter, Olalla, Wash., in the Comp Eliminator final round to capture the win. Mandella completed his winning pass at 8.409 seconds, 151.89 mph vs. Warter 8.765 seconds, 154.07 mph.

Nevada based Super Stock standout Justin Lamb of Henderson, had an easy day at the office cruising to a 9.206 seconds, 117.10 mph victory run in the final round as Brad Burton, Snohomish, Wash., cut the light too early, triggering red.

California driver Gerald Stein of Brentwood made his first final round appearance in Stock Eliminator and nearly made the most of it running .005 seconds within his dial in; finishing at 10.855 seconds, 119.30 mph. But Stein gave up a huge starting line advantage to fellow Californian McClanahan from Alta Loma, who won the duel finishing at 9.925 seconds, 123.09 mph.

HART AND BURKHART GO ALL THE WAY IN EPPING

EPPING, NH – Top Alcohol and Funny Car standouts Josh Hart and Phil Burkhart celebrated in winner’s circle with their teams Saturday at New England Dragway following their final round victories in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

After beating out Rich McPhillips and Duane Shields in rounds one and two, Hart, Ocala, Fla., squared off against New Hampshire driver Dan Page of Hampstead in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round. The Florida runner blocked out the home crowd as he scored the hole shot victory racing to 5.322 seconds, 271.08 mph vs. Page, 5.296 seconds, 275.62 mph.

The North vs South battle continued into the final round of Top Alcohol Funny Car. This time New York driver, Phil Burkhart hailing from Yorkville brought the Wally Trophy back to the Northeast. Aryan Rochon, Wesley Chapel, Fla., triggered the light late at the tree .442 seconds; and Burkhart took full advantage, leaving him the dust. Burkhart crossed the finish line at 5.572 seconds, 266.27 mph. Rochon registered a pass of 5.728 seconds, 259.46 mph.

RAMPY, FLETCHER, HELMS ADD TO WIN TOTALS

MORRISON, CO – David Rampy, Dan Fletcher and Kevin Helms all added to their win counts while Bradley Johnson, Brad Basgall and Randy Cruickshank each captured their first NHRA National event win at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.

Rampy bagged his 96th national event win as he ran down Jessie Oman who got the jump in the Comp Eliminator final round.  Oman took the early lead by .025 seconds but Rampy’s ‘32 roadster had the power at the top end to take the win in 7.720 seconds at 166.46 mph.

Fletcher, who hit the 100 wins milestone early this month, grabbed number 101 and his eighth at Bandimere Speedway as he knocked out Justin Jenkins in Super Stock.  Fletcher pulled out a great .002 second reaction time then held on to win in 11.122 seconds as Jenkins ran too quick as he tried to chase down Fletcher.

This weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series All-American Hot Rod Showdown at Gateway Motorsports Park postponed due to multiple-day excessive heat advisory for St. Louis area

MADDISON, IL – This weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series All-American Hot Rod Showdown at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill., has been rescheduled due to a multiple-day excessive heat advisory for the St. Louis area. The event has been rescheduled for October 20-22.

Additional details for the new event will be released soon. The $20-per-car load coupons and ticket vouchers, originally valid for July 21-22,  will be honored on October 21-22.

From the National Weather Service St. Louis Office: “A major heat wave is expected to unfold on Tuesday and then grip the area through Saturday. Dangerous levels of heat are forecast with the most oppressive conditions occurring Thursday through Saturday when highs will range from 97 to 103 degrees, and afternoon/early evening heat index values will be from 105-113. The St. Louis metro region will experience the most dangerous heat levels throughout the area.” (July 17 — 5:15 a.m. CDT)

NHRA PACIFIC DIVISION ARRIVES AT SONOMA RACEWAY FOR THE NHRA DIVISION 7 DRAG RACE PRESENTED BY KORBEL

The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series will run in conjunction with the event along with Pro Mod and Nostalgia A/Fuel Dragsters.  Tickets for Sonoma Raceway are $5 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will also run in conjunction with the event along with the Ultimax Pro Stock Snowmobiles

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at New England Dragway are $15 Friday, $25 Saturday and $15 Sunday. Children 10 and under are admitted free with a paid adult

Severance and DeFrank Lead Winner’s Circle in Woodburn

WOODBURN, OR – 2016 defending Lucas Oil World Champion Joey Severance and Jimmy DeFrank took home Wally trophies from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northwest Division Les Schwab Tires Challenge at Woodburn Dragstrip.

In Top Alcohol Dragster final round, Severance, Woodburn, Ore., continued his championship defense, against TAD rival Shawn Cowie, B.C. Severance got off the line first and continued to pull away for the win. Severance registered a winning pass of 5.227 seconds, 278.89 mph. Cowie followed up at 5.260 seconds, 278.29 mph.

Jimmy DeFrank, Thousand Oaks, Calif., continued his world title defense as well in the final round of Super Stock. And it was an easy day at the office as Dave Barcelon, Bremerton, Wash., triggered the red light yielding the victory to DeFrank. DeFrank made a winning pass of 9.293 seconds, 115.47 mph.

SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION 4 LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES VENUE CHANGE

DALLAS – NHRA officials announced today that the fifth of six events scheduled for the 2017 South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will be changing venues. The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event previously scheduled to take place at Thunder Road Raceway in Gilliam, La., on Sept. 15-17, 2017 has been relocated to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. This event will now be conducted as a 2-day (Fri.-Sat.) event on the same weekend of Sept. 15-16, 2017.

The Texas Motorplex event will feature a track operated Test and Tune on Thursday, Sept. 14. Time trials and qualifying will take place on Friday followed by a single time trial and qualifying run on Saturday along with all rounds of eliminations for all classes.  Classes scheduled to run include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Sportsman Motorcycle.

NHRA NORTHWEST DIVISION MAKES FIRST VISIT OF THE SEASON TO WOODBURN DRAGSTRIP

WOODBURN, OR – Woodburn Dragstrip will host the Les Schwab Tires Challenge NHRA Northwest Division event on July 14- 16. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s JBS Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series will also run in conjunction with the event.
