ARAGON CLOSES IN ON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, LABBOUS MAINTAINS TOP SPOTS

CONCORD, NC – The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series was in full effect this past weekend during the 10th annual NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway. Frank Aragona and John Labbous Jr., both moved closer to National Championship rings with final round victories Sunday.

Aragona, Freehold N.J., squared off against Comp Eliminator Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series National points leader David Rampy of Piedmont, Ala. Aragona took the starting line advantage and powered his way down the strip to victory, running 7.388 seconds, 171.31 mph; Rampy 7.354 seconds, 160.94 mph.

SEVERANCE, WESTERFIELD WIN; LAMB DOUBLES AT WOODBURN

WOODBURN, OR – At Woodburn Dragstrip, racers Joey Severance, Woodburn, Ore., and Shane Westerfield, Anaheim, Calif., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Severance faced off against Garrett Bateman, Albany, Ore., and posted a winning run of 5.285 seconds, 272.80 mph with Bateman coming in close behind at 5.269 seconds, 277.69 mph for his runner up finish.

Westerfield got the Top Alcohol Funny Car win with a pass of 5.490 seconds at 270.27 mph as he faced off against Sean Bellemeur, Placentia, Calif., in the final. Westerfield left the line first and extended his lead all the way to the finish line.

Justin Lamb took home the elusive double in winning both the Super Stock and Stock titles.  Lamb, Henderson, Nev., drove his Super Stock ’10 Chevrolet to a pass of 8.696 seconds, 146.48 mph, taking the win over Rick McKinney, Richmond, B.C., at 10.792, 121.00. In Stock Eliminator, Lamb wheeled his ’17 Camaro to the win in 8.919 seconds, 172.05 mph against Kyle Rizzoli, San Luis Obispo, Calif., and his ’69 Camaro with a 10.427 second, 120.14 mph pass.

CECIL COUNTY DRAGWAY CLAIMS TEAM TITLE; FIVE HEADED TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

NUMIDIA, PA – The team from Cecil County Dragway combined for a total of 65 points to run away with the trophy and the Team Championship for the 2017 NHRA Summit Racing Series Northeast Division Finals at Numidia Dragway.  Individual winners were led by local racer and Numidia Dragway runner Mike MacKey in Street followed by Todd Marin, Butch Weinreich, Austin Youndt, and Kevin Kohr.

Host track Numidia Dragway held on to finish second in the team standing with 45 points as Mason Dixon Dragway and Esta Safety Park tied for third at 44.

CUMMINGS AND PHILLIPS SCORE IN TEXAS

ENNIS, TX – Slate Cummings and Tommy Phillips secured wins in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central division event at Texas Motorplex this past weekend.

Stock standout Cummings of Hammond, La., lined up in his Corvette against John Brimer, Burleson, Texas. Cummings initially took the starting line advantage, and Brimer broke out attempting to chase him down. Cummings brought home the divisional Wally trophy at 10.409 seconds, 125.69 mph, Brimer 10.483 seconds, 125.05 mph.

In an all Texas Super Comp final round, Phillips of Forney got off the line first and successfully held off Alan Savage of Mexia for the final round victory. Phillips’ victory pass clocked in at 8.928 seconds, 164.69 mph. Savage followed up at 8.959 seconds, 161.52 mph.

Cory Morrow Headlines Friday Night Concert at NHRA AAA Texas Fall Nationals

Texas Country Singer/Songwriter will perform after qualifying Oct. 13

ENNIS, TX – At the conclusion of the first day of qualifying at the 32nd annual NHRA AAA Texas Fall Nationals award-winning Texas Country recording artist Cory Morrow will perform a live concert at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. Race fans with tickets will be able to enjoy the concert for free on Friday, October 13 and a $5 ticket discount will be offered for tickets sold after 5 p.m. on Friday at the NHRA facility located on Highway 287 between Ennis and Waxahachie.

“We are excited to have Cory Morrow perform at the NHRA AAA Texas Fall Nationals. This is really a double benefit for fans,” said Texas Motorplex General Manager Andy Carter. “We should have a huge crowd on Friday so race fans can enjoy some great Texas Country music and let the traffic free up and it is also a great chance for country music fans to get to see some racing action before one of the hottest names in country takes the stage.

MEYER AND WILLIAMS WIN IN EARLVILLE

EARLVILLE, IA – Racers Megan Meyer, Olathe, Kan., and Kirk Williams, Glenwood, Iowa, took home wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car Sunday evening at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Iowa. This event concluded the six race Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series in the NHRA West Central division.

Meyer faced off against Mike Edstrom, Maple Grove, Minn., running 5.337 seconds, 272.39 mph, for the holeshot win.  Edstrom runner upped at 5.294 seconds, 271.62 mph.

Williams captured the Top Alcohol Funny Car victory with a pass of 5.617 seconds, 256.26 mph.  Kris Hool, Evansville, Wyo., had mechanical issues midway through his pass, finishing up at 7.508 seconds, 126.33 mph.

LINKE AND BENHAM GO GOLD IN FRONT OF HOME CROWD

OLD BRIDGE, NJ- Russell Linke and Scott Benham scored big victories in front of a cheering home crowd during the NHRA Northeast division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Linke, who lives minutes away from the track in Old Bridge, gave up the starting line to charging Fred Thibeault, Middleton, N.S., but Thibeault took too much stripe and broke out. Linke earned the Stock Eliminator divisional Wally trophy, making a winning pass of 10.519 seconds, 115.65 mph; Thibeault 10.212 seconds, 126.01 mph.

New Jersey Comp Eliminator standouts Benham of Jackson and Aragona of Freehold squared off in the final round. Benham pulled the minor upset, running 8.076 seconds, 162.02 mph to hold off Aragona, 7.365 seconds, 177.72 mph.

NHRA HEADS TO TRI-STATE RACEWAY

EARLVILLE, IA – The NHRA West Central Division concludes its season with the NHRA Division 5 Finals at Tri-State Raceway on September 8-10. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman, Fineline Graphics & Madcap Racing Top Dragster and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series are also in competition.

RACEWAY PARK HOSTS 51st ANNUAL NHRA LUCAS OIL DIVISION 1 POINTS MEET

ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – Old Bridge Township Raceway Park host the 51st Annual NHRA Lucas Oil Division 1 Points Meet which will conclude the Northeast Division season on September 8-10. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will run in conjunction with the event along with Pro Sock Snowmobile.

Gates at Raceway Park open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. Comp Eliminator will qualify Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. with elimination rounds at 4 and 5 p.m. Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will qualify Friday at 4 and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. with eliminations at 4:15 and 7 p.m. Eliminations continue at 10 a.m. on Sunday with Top Dragster and Top Sportsman at 10:30 a.m.

GREEN, SCHLENKER, AND STEFFEN HEAD TO POMONA WITH WINS

WOODBURN, OR – The Summit Racing Series was in town this past weekend at Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Ore. Dale Green and John Floyd Jr.raced to victory this past weekend. In addition, Andy Schlenker and Robert Steffen took top honors in the Summit Racing Series Race of Champions.

Local Super Pro runner Green of Covington took the starting line against Chris Jaggers, Middelton, Idaho in the final round. Green upended Jaggers, running 8.935 seconds, 163.54 mph. Jaggers followed at 7.833 seconds, 151.59 mph. The NHRA Northwest division received the Super Pro wildcard in the Summit Racing Series drawing earlier this season. Dale Green will represent the Northwest division in the Summit Racing National Championship.
