NEOPMA

30-30-30 with the NEOPMA

MECHANICSVILLE, MD – The 2022 Superchargers Showdown, September 30th through October 2nd is shaping up to be one of the most memorable yet! This event will bring the high talented racers from the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA). The theme of the event is 30-30-30. 30 years, $30,000 to win, and a special 30+ car field!

The NEOPMA will be making their return to Maryland International Raceway (MIR) with some of the fastest Pro Mods in the country. This year’s Superchargers Showdown is more than just the season finale for the club, but it also marks 30 years of racing for the long-standing association. Club owner John Mazzorana is putting up $30,000 to win for Pro Mod racers running with the NEOPMA that weekend to celebrate! And while $30,000 to win is no joke, how about payouts going back to 16 cars and over $45,000 in event purse for just NEOPMA racers.

Mazzorana is not afraid to put up big money to honor those that race with his club as he did something similar just 5 years ago while celebrating this 25th year anniversary at the same event. He put up $25,000 to win at that event and it brought some of the best and closest racing of the year. This year’s event is expected to bring out some of the best in the business to fight for that large prize. And in commemoration of the 30-year feat, the NEOPMA is going to be doubling the size of the competition and having a 32-car field for the Superchargers Showdown. Over 30 cars have already pre-entered for the event and are looking forward to even more!

NEOPMA Champion Mike Decker Jr. Goes Back-to-Back at Yellowbullet Nationals

RISING SUN, MD – Defending Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) champion Mike Decker Jr. scored his third win of the season Sunday night, winning the Yellowbullet Nationals at Cecil County Dragway for the second consecutive year. The win stretched out Decker’s points lead as the eighth-mile Pro Modified club rolls into the final race of its 30th anniversary season in late September.

“At this race, each round is like a big victory,” said Decker, a former Outlaw 10.5 standout. “To come in and win the race back to back, it’s unbelievable. We’ve been to the final round at all three Yellowbullet races that we’ve been to since moving over to Pro Mod. Very grateful to my guys and the people who stand behind us to do this.”

Decker qualified No. 1 with a 3.605 at 208.68 to set up a first-round match with Kurt Steding, who left the starting line first but had to lift, while Decker moved on with a 3.685 at 206.45. He delivered a holeshot win in the second round, beat Jason Lee’s 3.637 with a 3.646 at 207.94. Decker and semifinal opponent Steve King both cut .057 reaction times, but Decker pulled ahead to win with a 3.633 at 209.17 over King’s 5.205.

NEOPMA Racers Roll Into Cecil County Dragway for Yellowbullet Nationals

RISING SUN, MD – As the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) continues to celebrate its 30th anniversary season, the eighth-mile Pro Modified club is heading to Cecil County Dragway for the Yellowbullet Nationals, Sept. 2-4. The Church View Farms Pro Mod winner will walk away with $30,000, while low qualifier and other bonuses are also up for grabs at the legendary outlaw event.

“We’re proud to be a part of the Yellowbullet Nationals again as we celebrate 30 years of Pro Modified racing,” said John Mazzorana, founder and president, NEOPMA. “Our racers have competed at the Yellowbullet Nationals for years, but last year was the first time it was a points-earning event for us. We appreciate Jim Halsey and the Cecil County and Yellowbullet teams welcoming us in, and we hope to add our NEOPMA touch to this already incredible show.”

At last year’s Yellowbullet Nationals, Maryland’s own Mike Decker Jr. picked up the Pro Mod win on his way to the 2021 NEOPMA season championship. He defeated Tommy Gray, a longtime NEOPMA racer.

This year’s entry list is stacked with NEOPMA heavy hitters like Decker, the current points leader, as well as Kevin McCurdy of Hard Racing, who recently won the NEOPMA race at Maryland International Raceway to move up to second in points. Additional entrants include Steve King, Mike Decker III, Tyler Hard, Carl Stevens Jr., Todd Moyer, Matt Guenther, and Matt Deitsch.

Kevin McCurdy Scores First NEOPMA Win of Season at Maryland

BUDDS CREEK, MD – Longtime Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) standout Kevin McCurdy raced to victory Saturday night at the NEOPMA’s sixth race of the season, which was held in conjunction with Maryland International Raceway’s IHRA Sportsman Spectacular. McCurdy in his ProCharger-boosted Hard Racing ’68 Camaro made his best run of the weekend, a 3.692-second pass at 205.32 MPH, to hold off defending event winner Fredy Scriba, who posted a 3.713 at 201.43 in the runner-up effort.

“This win means a lot,” said McCurdy, a past NEOPMA champion. “We’ve been making progress with the blue car at the last three races we were at. It’s good. It’s consistent. It goes down the track every time, and it’s going quicker and quicker all the time. We knew [a win] would come sometime, but it’s good it happened last night.”

McCurdy qualified third with a 3.708 at 206.29 before winning the opening round of eliminations with a 3.72 at 205.72 against Cody Helger. A 3.713 at 204.98 was enough to beat the 3.721 at 204.60 of fellow NEOPMA veteran Steve King in a side-by-side second-round match. McCurdy’s solid reaction times came into play in the semifinals, as he recorded a 3.701 at 205.32 to defeat points leader and defending series champion Mike Decker Jr. and his 3.694 at 205.82.
