MUTT & JEFF FALL BRAWL SATURDAY RESULTS

Boonsboro, MD – It’s pretty well known that a dragster has always been the tool of choice when it comes to high dollar bracket racing. All that has been changing the past couple of years as door cars have been showing up in a lot of late rounds. In fact, at this event lone, door car entries outnumbered the dragsters in the pre-entered and limited 250 car field.

Yesterday’s Mutt & Jeff Promotions Fall Brawl $20K-to-win at Mason Dixon Dragway in Maryland ended with three door cars left standing in the semifinals, with Mike Barber and his Fox Body Mustang eventually scoring the $20K for his coffers. The weekend left two more $10K-to-win races today and Sunday, but an impeding weather forecast for Sunday forced officials to combine Saturday and Sunday’s races, making today another $20K-to-win.

Just like yesterday, the No Box cars were kept separate with the final combatants Marty Flegal and Scott Lenig. The winner of that pair moved into the next round of the Box class. After identical reaction times, it was Lenig forced to run out and advance Flegal into the semifinals of the Box class after he received a $1,000 bonus for winning the No Box class

MUTT & JEFF FALL BRAWL FRIDAY RESULTS

Boonesboro, MD – In the infancy of Mutt & Jeff Promotions, their version of high dollar bracket racing involved three events held at Mason Dixon Dragway in Maryland before moved slightly north to Pennsylvania’s Beaver Spring Dragway.

For 2021 and Mutt & Jeff’s second event of the year returns to Mason Dixon Dragway for the appropriately named the Fall Brawl. A pre-entered and limited field of over 250 of the toughest bracket racers made their way down Highway 40 to enter the track to battle for some big money.

The original plan was for three days of $10k-$20k-$10k to win races held with the first of the two $10k beginning today. Plans sometimes go awry especially with incoming weather, and it was decided by Mutt & Jeff officials, Plan B would include running the $20k race on Friday. The announcement was released officially the day before in order to make everyone aware of the change. And so Friday began with a single time run followed by eliminations.

MUTT & JEFF FALL BRAWL

Boonesboro, MD – It was 2015 when Mutt and Jeff Promotions opened with their first event held at South Mountain Dragway in Pennsylvania. Looking for larger venue, the following year, the event was moved to Mason Dixon Dragway in Maryland. With a handful of sponsors, that first event in Maryland proved to be the right decision. Racers flocked in to take part in the experience of a high dollar bracket race – Mutt and Jeff style.

“In 2019,” says Mutt and Jeff Promotions’ Paul Burruss, “we chose to move the event further north to Beaver Springs Dragway with an overwhelming success, but never forgetting where it all started.”

For 2021, in addition to the Beaver Springs event held last June, Mutt and Jeff Promotions will be returning to Mason Dixon Dragway this coming week with their Fall Brawl event; three days of high dollar bracket racing. Looking to place a cap on the number of entries to provide for an exceptional experience for racers, when the Fall Brawl event was first announced back in June, pre-entries filled fast proving once again the old adage of “Build it and they will come.” In addition, a separate and limited 32-car dragster and door car shootouts will take place. On Saturday night, an open to all Racer Appreciation Party will also be a part of the festivities.

MUTT & JEFF PROMOTIONS – DAY LAST RESULTS

Beaver Springs, PA – As has been told several times, it was seven years ago when good friends Paul Burrus and Dylan Griffey began Mutt & Jeff Promotions with a rather small big dollar bracket race. That dream has now led to where they are today, with this weekend’s event held at Beaver Springs Dragway in Pennsylvania.

The three-day race came to a close today with $10,000 awarded to one last winner, except…

After two days of gorgeous weather with low humidity, Mother Nature may have said, “Enough is enough.”

Halfway through the third round of eliminations, the rains came essentially completing the event. Even if the rain stopped, it would take hours to re-prep the track. With Sunday as Father’s Day and most wanting to be home with their families, the executive decision was to go back to all second round winners, as if third round never began. The purse was then split amongst those second round winners.

MUTT & JEFF PROMOTIONS – DAY 2 RESULTS

Beaver Springs, PA – Day 2 of the Mutt & Jeff Promotions bracket race held at Beaver Springs Dragway in central Pennsylvania dawned with cool, crisp and sunny skies. New entry time trials added several to the already packed field of race cars.

With all of the action being streamed live as it happens by MotorManiaTV.com, eliminations began early in a very timely fashion. With $20,000 on the line for one lucky winner, racers were locked and loaded for win lights. Also on order for today was the Door Car Shootout with a limited 32-car field with $4,000 on the line for the winner.

First up as the day advanced was final round six of the Footbrake class where Scott Lenig defeated Soggie Dunn to advance to round seven of the Top Bulb class.

In the meanwhile, the Top Bulb racers left to do battle in their sixth round were Dale Crouch, Mike Barber, Joey Harrison, Brad Northrop, Mike Shupp, David Shaw, Tim Sansone, Lane Kahley, Bill Moroun and Bill Prest Jr. Survivors of that round were Kahley, Sansone, Harrison, Shupp, and Crouch.

MUTT & JEFF PROMOTIONS – DAY 1 RESULTS

Beaver Springs, PA – For 50 years, Beaver Springs Dragway, located amongst Amish farmlands in central Pennsylvania, has hosted a number of big events, maybe though, none bigger than the seventh edition of the Mutt & Jeff Promotions big bracket race.

Built in 1971 as a 30-day wonder by “Beaver Bob” McCardle and his family, the track is now owned by Mike McCracken and his Zoo Crew Racing organization. When built, the order of the day was pick-up trucks, open trailers and other flat-towed race cars. Today, quite a bit has changed in that regard and for this weekend, the facility is stretched to its limits with motorhomes and stacker trailers carrying multiple race cars. A limited pre-entered field of 250 racers came to do battle for big bucks.

“We’re over the top excited to get this event underway,” says Mutt & Jeff Promotions promoter Paul Burruss earlier in the week. “With a great weather forecast, along with a great Mutt & Jeff staff along with the track’s staff, this is going to be great event.”

MUTT & JEFF PROMOTIONS

Beaver Spring, PA – In what was a long-running comic trip beginning in 1907, cartoonist Bud Fisher created the concept of two mis-matched characters, Mutt and Jeff. Over a decade ago, two almost similarly unlikely friends, Paul Burruss and Dylan Griffey began racing together known as Mutt and Jeff.

Now seven years later, their Mutt & Jeff Promotions Races have been on the minds of bracket racers in the northeast corner of the country. This week, hundreds will descend upon Pennsylvania’s Beaver Springs Dragway to do battle for thousandths of dollars in prizes along with more in random product and giveaway awards.

The action begins on Thursday with a $10,000-to-win race followed by a 32-car Dragster Shootout. Friday, the ante is upped to $20,000-to-win followed by another $10K race on Saturday. Saturday will also feature a 32-car Door Car Shootout.

“We’re always looking forward to visiting Beaver Springs Dragway,” says Burruss. “The track owner, Mike McCarcken has done so a great job transforming that facility into a great place where taking care of his customers is paramount. We can’t wait to get this party started. In addition to the purse, we’ve got a whole handbag full of product awards from a variety of sponsors. On Friday night, we’ll also have a Racer Appreciation Party with food and a DJ playing music.

MUTT & JEFF PROMOTIONS – FINAL DAY RESULTS

Beaver Springs, PA – Two days down and one last one to go at the Mutt & Jeff Promotions high-dollar event at Beaver Springs Dragway in central Pennsylvania.

Two big stories at the beginning of the day was first Mike Holland’s win in the $20K final yesterday in his Mustang. Door cars are not always the best tool for the job, but Mike was making it look good in a car which had sat to two years and wasn’t even started until he arrived at the track on Thursday.

Second, iron man so far of the weekend has been Jeff Krushinskie who won Thursday’s race and then made it down to the semifinals yesterday. Driving a Roles team car, the semifinals was young Dalton Roles facing Krushinskie with the “owner” scoring the win and eventual runner-up yesterday.

A scattered weather forecast prolonged today with the sun poking through the clouds from time to time, but racing continued on.

MUTT & JEFF PROMOTIONS – FRIDAY RESULTS

Beaver Springs, PA – Scattered showers were in the forecast for today but racing went on. New entries were allotted a time run prior to first round beginning.

“We had a great day yesterday,” said Burruss. “We got hurt early in the day yesterday with some weather but the sun finally shone through and we were able to finish the entire race including the elite 32-car dragster shootout.”

In between the first round and the buyback round today, a select group of former winners faced off in the first Mutt & Jeff Top 8 for a little bit of fun. Six former winners got the chance to face off against Mutt & Jeff promoters Paul Burruss and Dylan Griffey. Shawn Barrett, Joey Harrison, Andy Dolan, Scott Tate, Randy Krause and Tony Hill, all took a shot to see who could knock off the “bosses.” After the first round, both “bosses” were beaten and final turned out to be a second year winner (Joey Harrison) and a fourth year champ (Shawn Barrett) with Barrett coming out on top as the champ of champs.

Once again, the Footbrake crowd ran by themselves until a winner was crowned, after which that person was seeded into the Super Pro ladder. Footbrake finalists ended up to be Thursday’s winner Mike Fornwalt and Bob Flick, with the win light shining in Flick’s lane after a -.006 red-light by Fornwalt.

MUTT & JEFF PROMOTIONS – THURSDAY RESULTS

Beaver Springs, PA – It was the day Paul Burruss and Dylan Griffey have been looking forward to for a whole year since last year’s Mutt & Jeff Promotions high-dollar bracket race.

“Last year we moved the event to Beaver Springs Dragway in central Pennsylvania,” said Burruss, “and we had a great event with a lot of competitors not only happy with the races themselves but also the facility. The track’s owner Mike McCracken worked diligently with us to assure everyone had a great time, which made continuing the event there a no-brainer.”

One change from last year was the move to run the three-day race on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, paying $10K-$20K-$10K to the winner each day. While the weather for the three days prior were chamber of commerce gorgeous, don’t ever fool with Mother Nature. This morning opened up to unexpected liquid sunshine (rain) but track and Mutt & Jeff officials stuck with the plan and by the time eliminations began in the afternoon, sunshine prevailed.

A separate Footbrake class was run with the winner being seeded into the following round of the Super Pro class in addition to receiving a Footbrake bonus. And as usual, door cars were all run separate from dragsters with the winner of the door cars also seeded into the following round of Super Pro.
