SPENCER HYDE RACES TO SECOND ROUND AT LAS VEGAS FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS
LAS VEGAS – Rookie Funny Car driver Spencer Hyde drove the Head Inc. Funny Car into the second round at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals today at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After two days of qualifying including a Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge win, Hyde entered race day as the No. 3 qualifier. Throughout qualifying the Head Inc. Funny Car which is also backed by Hyde Construction, Red Line Oil and Dordan Mechanical was the class of the field picking up qualifying bonus points in three of the four sessions posting the quickest runs in the first and third qualifying sessions. Hyde faced Dave Richards, Buddy Hull and Hunter Green in the first round.
Hyde was first off the line and held on for the win in the opening round advancing to the second quad with Richards after outrunning Hull and Green. Hyde’s winning time of 3.994 seconds at 320.43 mph was the quickest of the first round in Funny Car. It was a continuation of Hyde and the Head Inc. Funny Car performance dominance. For the rookie driver getting his first round win in the four-wide format was a nice accomplishment.
“We made some killer runs this weekend,” said Hyde. “We were low three of the four qualifying sessions and then the first round. It’s a positive weekend for sure. We had to change the tire there for that second round and it bit us. That is a part of racing. It is really cool to go rounds in this Head Inc Funny Car for all our sponsors like Dordan Mechanical, Brysonwood Homes, Engineered, Racing Services, RR Sand & Gravel, Permanent Paving, ARB LABS, OpenPath, and RACERSCLUB.” Continue reading
SPENCER HYDE WINS LAS VEGAS FUNNY CAR FOUR-WIDE MISSION CHALLENGE
LAS VEGAS – Rookie Funny Car driver Spencer Hyde raced to the win today in the Funny Car Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Hyde powered the Head Inc Funny Car to the winner’s circle on a tricky track that saw him post solid elapsed times in in his Funny Car also backed by Hyde Construction, Red Line Oil and Dordan Mechanical. Hyde qualified for the specialty race on the strength of his semifinal finish at the historic NHRA Winternationals two weeks ago. In the final quad Hyde outran Cruz Pedregon, Matt Hagan and Chad Green to collect the $10,000 cash prize and three important championship points. His efforts throughout qualifying also netted him No. 3 qualifier, the highest starting position of his career.
“Winning today’s Mission 2Fast2Tasty Challenge was pretty cool,” said Hyde, driver for Jim Head Racing. “We had a little rough start to the season. We didn’t qualify in Gainesville, didn’t qualify in Phoenix, but we put that behind us for a great outing in Pomona going to the semifinals to get into this race. This weekend we were low of two or three of the sessions and we won this deal. I am pretty happy with that. I am getting more comfortable in the car and getting some big, clean runs is huge.” Continue reading
Spencer Hyde to Drive Funny Car for Jim Head Racing in 2025
INDIANAPOLIS – Pro Mod standout Spencer Hyde will fill the open seat at Jim Head Racing for the entire NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series in 2025. The 33-year-old from Ontario, Canada, will immediately begin acclimating himself to the Ford Mustang Funny Car it was announced today from the NHRA on FOX stage at the PRI Show in Indianapolis. Hyde will make the requisite cross over passes to convert his Top Fuel license to Funny Car during the off-season. Last season Jim Head tuned his Funny Car to a win at Brainerd as well as seven additional semifinal finishes and seven top four qualifier spots.
“When I got the call from Jim Head honestly it was humbling to even be considered for this opportunity,” said Hyde. “I spent some time with Jim recently and we have had some great conversations. I am looking forward to this challenge. Driving a Pro Mod car is a handful because they are so unpredictable and getting to make nearly 20 passes in Paton’s Top Fuel dragster has given me the acceleration experience. I know Funny Cars are a whole different deal, but I can’t wait to give it my best.”
Hyde started racing in the Junior Dragster ranks in 2006. He graduated to racing Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Outlaw 10.5, and a variety of sportsman and bracket classes on the regional and national level. He was recognized in 2021 by Drag Illustrated as a standout member of their 30 Under 30 class. Continue reading
