INDIANAPOLIS – Top Fuel’s Justin Ashley delivered a strong performance under the lights at the prestigious 68th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals, racing to the provisional No. 1 position on Friday at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Robert Hight (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also the provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the 16th of 22 races during the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season and the final event of the regular season.

In a preview of his semifinal matchup in the Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout, Ashley went 3.716-seconds at 330.23 mph in a side-by-side pairing against Steve Torrence, putting him on track to earn his third career No. 1 qualifier in his 11,000-horsepower Phillips Connect dragster. “You always want to come out hot and make a good run down the track,” Ashley said. “It’s a special weekend for us and we always want to put on a good show. JUSTIN BOND AIMING FOR BIGGEST WIN OF HIS FUELTECH NHRA PRO MOD DRAG RACING SERIES CAREER AT INDY

INDIANAPOLIS – Justin Bond has never enjoyed much luck racing at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon, something he’s looking to change this weekend as part of the prestigious 68th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals.

Bond enters with momentum in his ProCharger-powered Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro, picking up the win in Topeka last month. That victory went a long way for Bond and his team’s confidence as they made one strong run after another in the heat. He’s hoping that translates to success at the Big Go this weekend, where a victory would mean a great deal to the veteran racer.

“When you come here and you see all the cars, all the entries and drive through the track, it just solidifies drag racing,” Bond said. “It’s just different. We haven’t had much luck here, but preparation on every part of the car is everything. You can’t fall behind here, and you have to get down the track every run. But we’re just going to focus on having a good time and I’m going to try and cut good lights and make our opponents beat us.”

The race in Indy, which is the seventh of 10 events during the 2022 season in the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon, is powered by ProCharger Superchargers, which is the power adder of choice for several top drivers in the Pro Mod world. That list includes Bond, points leader Kris Thorne, who has three victories this season, Sidnei Frigo and defending world champion Jose Gonzalez.

EDDIE KRAWIEC ON VERGE OF MILESTONE WIN HEADING TO DODGE POWER BROKERS NHRA U.S. NATIONALS

INDIANAPOLIS – The next victory for Pro Stock Motorcycle standout Eddie Krawiec would be a big one, as the four-time world champion is a win away from his 50th career victory. The fact that the milestone victory could come at the biggest race of the year, this weekend’s prestigious 68th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, would make it even sweeter for the longtime standout.

Krawiec has already been close on a couple of occasions this year, finishing as the runner-up at the past two races on his Vance & Hines Suzuki. Both of those defeats came to points leader Joey Gladstone, but it also tells Krawiec the team is closing in on a victory at the perfect time.

As a three-time winner at the Big Go, including a victory last season at the U.S. Nationals, Krawiec fully knows about the prestige of winning in Indy, which is why a 50th career win coming at the illustrious race would likely make for a pinch-me moment.

NHRA Top Fuel Champion Antron Brown To Testify in Senate Hearing

WASHINGTON, DC – NHRA Top Fuel champion and superstar Antron Brown will testify before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee as it considers passage of the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in Washington, D.C.

Brown – a professional NHRA driver-team owner who has won three Top Fuel Championships – began his racing career about 40 years ago by modifying street-legal motorcycles into dedicated race motorcycles. Today, this ability to compete in modified street-legal vehicles is at risk. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a draft ruling in 2015 stating that it is not legal to convert production vehicles into dedicated race vehicles. Although the ruling was never finalized, the EPA maintains its position that such conversions are not legal and continues to enforce against the production and sale of high-performance parts.

“The RPM Act is essential to the racing community, particularly for grassroots racers who are just getting started,” said Brown. “It’s imperative that we protect the ability for young men and women to be able to compete at the track. The RPM Act will give racers the assurance they need to continue this American tradition.”

NHRA AND PHILLIPS CONNECT PARTNER TO CREATE “PHILLIPS CONNECT 300 AT THE 1/8” PROGRAM

INDIANAPOLIS – NHRA officials today announced a partnership with Phillips Connect, along with the formation of the “Phillips Connect 300 at the 1/8” program, a special club that will honor the first 10 drivers in either Top Fuel or Funny Car to reach the 300-mph milestone in the 1/8-mile.

Starting at this weekend’s prestigious Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, the first driver in NHRA history in one of the nitro categories to reach the 300-mph mark by 660-feet in qualifying or eliminations will receive a special $30,000 bonus as the first driver in the “Phillips Connect 300 at the 1/8” program. Each of the next nine competitors to reach the mark will also earn recognition and a bonus.

NHRA and Phillips Connect, an industry leader with connected asset solutions for trailers, chassis, and containers, partnered together to create the unique program, rewarding the milestone feat of technology and engineering among the standout teams in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series.

“When I broke 300 mph in a Funny Car at the quarter-mile, it was a major accomplishment,” said Phillips Connect EVP Jim Epler, who enjoyed a standout career in the Funny Car ranks. “Now you see drivers reaching this speed at just half the distance. It’s a true testament to the technology and the incredible crew chiefs that have taken this sport to the next level. We’re honored to be a part of this groundbreaking club and appreciate the hard-working teams that have kept the NHRA excited.”

NHRA NITRO STARS LOOK FOR LEGACY-MAKING WIN AT PRESTIGIOUS DODGE POWER BROKERS NHRA U.S. NATIONALS

Defending Top Fuel winner Steve Torrence seeks back-to-back victories it the Big Go, plus a Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout win

INDIANAPOLIS – As the four-time defending Top Fuel world champion, Steve Torrence knows all about racing in big moments. But none of them can top winning at the prestigious 68th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals, which takes place this weekend at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.

It’s the world’s biggest drag race and Torrence, who also won the most recent NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series event in Brainerd, has a pair of U.S. Nationals triumphs to his credit, including last year in his 11,000-horsepower Capco Contractors dragster. This year could be even bigger for the 52-time event winner, as he’s also in the semifinals of the Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout specialty race. That started in Gainesville and is now down to the semifinals, where points leader Brittany Force, Torrence, Mike Salinas, and Justin Ashley will square off on Saturday for the $80,000 prize before eliminations on Sunday.

It’s a chance at another spectacular memory for Torrence, who will be hard-pressed to top how special last year’s win was at the Big Go.
