Solid Sunday Effort for DC Motorsports in Charlotte

CONCORD, NC – Following last week’s on-track incident in Houston, the DC Motorsports team brought out their backup Funny Car for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. The last time they sent their spare car down the track was during pre-season testing in February, but the team quickly adapted, and Alexis DeJoria used her best qualifying time of 3.936 seconds to qualify ninth for Sunday’s elimination show.

Having enjoyed a solid showing at the previous two four-wide events (Las Vegas 2022, Charlotte 2021), DeJoria was looking to take her Bandero Tequila Toyota GR Supra Funny Car to its third consecutive four-wide final quad appearance on race day in Charlotte. The six-time Funny Car winner lined up against John Force and Bob Tasca in round one, and powered the Bandero Supra to the finish line in 3.899 seconds, an E.T. that likely would have earned her the round win had she been in any of the other three Funny Car elimination quads. Unfortunately for DeJoria, both Tasca and Force’s machines were just a tick faster and their E.T.s allowed them to advance into the next round.

“We made some progress in our backup car that we haven’t run since testing in Arizona back in February,” said DeJoria, who departs zMAX ranked eighth in the Funny Car standings. “We ran a 3.89 today and had a good light and just got beat by seven-thousandths-of-a-second and sometimes that’s just the way it goes out here. The competition is stout and it’s hard to win races, but we’re a strong team. We’ve been a little out of sorts since Houston last weekend and having to get everything back together so quickly without a break (in the schedule) was tough. Now we have a week off to plan things out and get ready for Virginia. We’re going to test on Monday and we’re looking forward to getting back at it in a few weeks.”

Alexis DeJoria Ready to Put Houston Race Weekend in the Rearview

BAYTOWN, TX – Alexis DeJoria qualified the Bandero Premium Tequila Toyota GR Supra sixth to draw No. 11 qualifier Bobby Bode as her first-round opponent on Sunday at the NHRA SpringNationals. Against Bode, the six-time Funny Car winner’s machine started to smoke the tires early into the run. She pedaled it, but her car made a hard turn and slammed into the guard wall. DeJoria wrangled her machine to a safe stop and climbed out under her own power while Bode advanced for the round win.

“What a bummer of a way to lose first round at the last race here in Houston. Went up against Bobby Bode, smoked the tires, pedaled it a couple of times and it got loose, and I was just trying really hard. I saw Bode out of the corner of my eye and I just wanted that round win really badly. We’ve got extra bodies, extra chassis, but that’s Funny Car racing for you. I’m sorry to my guys, they have a lot of work to do to get ready for Charlotte, but we’re a strong team, and we’ll come out swinging next weekend,” said DeJoria, who departs Houston ranked sixth (tied) in the Funny Car standings.

Alexis DeJoria Advances to Final Elimination Quad at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Alexis DeJoria, a two-time Las Vegas event winner, was hoping to hit the jackpot at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals and score her first four-wide triumph on Sunday afternoon. The six-time Funny Car winner started race day from the No. 10 seed and parlayed her 3.958-second qualifying time to a semifinal finish by advancing to the final elimination quad.

In the opening session, DeJoria drove the Bandero Premium Tequila Toyota GR Supra through the finish line beams in 3.932 seconds to defeat Jim Campbell and Cruz Pedregon. In round two, DeJoria’s crew chiefs, Del Worsham and Nicky Boninfante, tuned her 11,000-horsepower machine to another stout run with DeJoria clocking a 3.936 E.T. to outpace John Force and Blake Alexander and move onto the final elimination round. While DeJoria posted another solid effort in the finals – a 3.954 E.T. – it wasn’t enough to get by Ron Capps and Matt Hagan who finished No. 1 and 2. The Bandero team’s semifinal appearance enabled them to move two spots up to sixth in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship Funny Car point standings.

“We made it to the final elimination round here in Las Vegas this weekend, and it was another pretty successful outing at this track for us with the Bandero Supra,” said DeJoria. “We didn’t come away with the hardware but no reason to hang our heads. We did well today. The team hustled. We made three really good, consistent runs on race day and we’re right there. I’m proud of these guys. They’re working hard and we’ll prepare for Houston and look to grab our first win of the season there.”

Quarterfinal Finish at Phoenix for Top 10-Ranked DC Motorsports Team

CHANDLER, AZ – Alexis DeJoria achieved her career-first Funny Car win at the NHRA Arizona Nationals in 2014, and was hoping for a repeat performance on Sunday at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Starting from the No. 9 position, DeJoria faced fellow Toyota Gazoo Racing pilot J.R. Todd in what was billed as NHRA’s first-round ‘Funny Car marquee matchup.’ In the battle of Supra versus Supra, DeJoria came out on top by lighting up the scoreboard with a 3.944 E.T. to secure the definitive win over Todd’s tire-shaking 4.303-second pass. In the quarterfinals against Matt Hagan, DeJoria was first on the throttle, ripping off an impressive .046-second reaction time against her opponent but the holeshot advantage wasn’t enough to outpace Hagan who clocked a 3.864 E.T. versus DeJoria’s 3.941.

“It’s the second race of the season, and our weekend wasn’t as great as we had hoped for, but we are making progress with our new Bandero GR Supra Funny Car,” said DeJoria. “It’s been a little bit of a learning curve in certain ways, but this new body is absolutely incredible and once we get a few more laps under our belt, we are going to be a force to reckon with.

“Got that round-one victory today, which was great. It was the marquee matchup; Supra against a Supra, and our Bandero team got the win. Second round, cut one hell of a reaction time on Hagan, one of the best leavers in the sport, and that made me feel pretty good. We made it down the track, not as fast as we wanted to, but it’s progress and we’ll be alright. It’s early in the season, and we’re looking forward to getting back after it in Gainesville.”
