Wolf Pleased with First Two Races in Top Alcohol Dragster

LAS VEGAS – In Kirk Wolf’s first two races in Top Alcohol Dragster competition, the Texas native experienced some kirk-wolf-in-carof the highs and lows of racing in drag racing’s quickest and fastest Sportsman class. After signing a deal to drive the proven blown alcohol entry usually driven by Brandon Booher, Wolf went through the heartbreak of failing to qualify at his home race in Dallas, then rebounded with a top-half qualifying position and first-round win at the 16th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals in Las Vegas last month.

“I was nervous as I was rolling in to stage, then I was just relieved when the car went down the track and posted a strong number,” said Wolf, who qualified seventh with a 5.384 at 268.33 mph. “It felt good to have all of the hard work rewarded with a run like that.”

Once qualified, Wolf went on to defeat fellow Top Alcohol Dragster rookie and Pro Stock star Alex Laughlin in the first round of eliminations, posting a .031 reaction time and 5.403 at 270.32 to Laughlin’s 5.54. Wolf nabbed another substantial holeshot advantage over opponent Jackie Fricke in the second round, but an issue in the transmission prevented the AB Construction dragster from making it down The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

For Wolf, who’s had dreams of racing in the NHRA’s Top Alcohol classes since he was a young boy, the personal milestones reached in his first two races are huge steps towards his ultimate goal of racing for championships.

“Our performance at the Las Vegas race definitely has me looking forward to big things next year. Hopefully things keep coming together so I can run 10 to 12 races next year. I’d love to run for a regional championship in 2017, or maybe even something bigger,” Wolf added, hinting at a future national championship chase.

Always humble and gracious, Wolf offered praise for his tuner/driving coach, Brandon Booher, and crew chief/team owner, Aaron Booher. The father-son team finished second in 2016 NHRA North Central Region points before Brandon passed the driving duties over to Wolf at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals in early October.

“I really need to thank Brandon and Aaron for trusting me with their car,” Wolf lamented. “That was a huge move for Brandon to step out of the seat to allow me to drive. This also wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work by the crew, Brian Booher and Pete Brady. They were all joking around and helped keep my mind at ease as I tried to adjust to driving the car.”

Wolf will spend the offseason working on sponsorship deals to run a full schedule of races in 2017, while Brandon Booher will spend the next few months traveling to Bahrain to tune an Outlaw 10.5 Pro Mod car in the Bahrain Championship Drag Racing series.
