The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association recently completed their version of a “Western Swing”.  With back to back racing weekends starting at the 39th annual Nightfire Nationals in Boise Idaho and ending the following weekend in Denver Colorado at Bandimere Speedway for the Super Chevy Show, these two shows rocked the house to say the least.

The WCOPMA  for the first time made an appearance at the Nightfire Nationals in Boise Idaho and showed how it is done “Outlaw” style.  During the first qualifying session track records were broken, the quickest side by side Pro Mod pass and the quickest Pro Mod ET pass were recorded, and that was just the beginning.

There were 12 cars competing for the 8 car field.  When the field was set, Bret Williamson in his 53’ Studebaker was sitting at #1 with a 6.09. #2 qualifier  was John Scialpi 6.17, #3, Randy Kay 6.18, #4 Rod Burbage 6.18, #5 Jay Diedrich 6.26, #6, Dennis Radford 6.29, #7 Marc Meadors 6.33 and #8 was Dan Myers 6.47  Those not making the field Rod Pearce, Garrett Richards, Greg Carlile, and Billy Harper. This was the quickest 8 car field for both the association and for Firebird Raceway for Pro Mods.

Round one saw Williamson’s 6.13 over Myers’s 7.64, Burbage’s 6.24 over Diedrich’s 6.55, Scialpi’s 6.24 over Meadors’s 6.41 and Radford’s 6.29 over Kay’s 9.68.  In the Semi’s Williamson’s 6.20 took the win over Burbage’s 7.06 and Radford’s 6.22 took the win over Scialpi’s 7.96.  The final round was a classic Nitrous versus Blower match-up.  This was one heck of a race side by side down the track with Bret Williamson running a 6.17 at 231.83 to take the win over Dennis Radford’s 6.20 at 232.97. This was a drag race and the crowd loved every minute of it.

The following weekend the WCOPMA made their way to Bandimere Speedway for the Super Chevy Show.  This also was the first time the association has been invited to run at this track. Not ever running at Bandimere Speedway or in altitude that high, no one was quite sure of what to expect as far as performance. The track surface was phenomenal all weekend which led to some pretty incredible runs.  The altitude was around 8500-9500 ft the entire weekend. Out of the box Shawn Jones blasts a 6.28 in testing and Jay Diedrich runs a 230mph! These are some runs that no one was expecting. The final qualifying order was Bret Williamson sitting at number #1 with a 6.13, #2 Jay Diedrich 6.21, #3 Shawn Jones 6.24, #4 Randy Kay 6.27, #5 Rod Burbage 6.27, #6 John Scialpi 6.31, #7 Marc Meadors 6.39 and #8 Dan Myers 6.68.  There were thirteen cars trying to make the 8 car field, those who did not make the show, Mark Lovell, Jim Allen, Bill Bernard, Robbie Ward and Jeff Andre.

First Round saw Williamson’ 6.17 take the win over Meyer’s 6.54, Kay’s 6.33 over Burbage’s 6.31 (red light by -.002), Meador’s 7.29 over Diedrich’s 7.36 and Scialpi’s 6.33 over Jones’s 6.63.  In the semi’s Williamson’s 6.18 took the win over Kay’s 6.63 and Scialpi’s 6.35 took the win over Meadors’s 6.51.  The final round match up  Bret Williamson over John Scialpi, with Williamson taking the win with a 6.20 at 234.37mph over Scialpi’s 6.52 at 175.32mph.

Needless to say the performances at Bandimere Speedway blew away the expectations of everyone.  Track records in ET and MPH were broken and all were impressed with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod show.

The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association would like to thank the New family from Firebird Raceway and the Bandimere Family from Bandimere Speedway for the opportunity to run at your racetracks this year.  The entire association had a great time.
