“The Big One” this weekend for the WCOPMA

Sonoma, CA – It’s that time of the year again when the stars line up, the weather gets good and the cars come out! Sonoma Raceway’s NHRA Division 7 Drags are this weekend which will feature all the bracket action known to NHRA Divisional events plus the 5-second, 250 MPH West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association.

For many years, back to the very beginning of the WCOPMA series, everyone on the West Coast has been trying and hoping for a 16-car field to happen and the wait is finally over! Announced last week was 18 pre entered cars for this weekend’s event at Sonoma Raceway and it will be the first 16-car qualified field EVER for the WCOPMA.

It is a great list of cars pre entered which include Andrew Berry, Rod Burbage, Rob Cacioppo, Steve De Young, John Durden, Troy Ferry, Jeremy Hanger, Mike Maggio, Marc Meadors, Rob Moore, Scott Oksas, Ron Piazza, Sean Renteria, Garrett Richards, Rich Roberts, Lee Smith, Justin Wake and Rich Zehring.

The five turbo cars entered (Berry, De Young, Oksas, Piazza & Zehring) will have a special side bounty to aim for by resetting our association Turbo ET record (currently held by Oksas at 6.04). A total of $1,300 was collected for a “winner take all” thanks to the following companies: Bunker Race Cars, Hogan’s Racing Manifolds, Precision Turbo & Engine, Pro Line Racing, Racing Media Solutions, www.TurboBullet.com, Turbopunk and ZMOD Performance.

The action will kick off Thursday with a test n tune scheduled from 11am-5pm. Friday will host two qualifying sessions at 1pm and 5pm. Saturday will host a third qualifying session at 1pm then go into the first round of eliminations at 5pm with 16 cars. On Sunday the final eliminations for the 8 remaining cars will start at 11am and the event winner will be rewarded with a “Wally” trophy!
