Spradlin Takes Win in Second Straight Final

Adel, GA. The 2017 season is starting out as one of the best yet for the Southeastern Hose backed Spradlin Motorsports team from Ranburne, AL. In two races the team has raced to two final rounds. At this past weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at South Georgia Motorsports Park near Valdosta, GA, team driver Casey Spradlin brought home the “Wally” trophy in the Top Dragster category. Spradlin came up short in the final against the 2015 Top Sportsman national champion, Jeffery Barker, at NHRA Gator Nationals, the team’s first race of the season.

At this weekend’s event his final round opponent didn’t come any easier as he faced off against defending Top Dragster national champion, Jeff Strickland. Spradlin got the starting line advantage but during the run a transmission leak caused Spradlin to take the long way to the finish line. He was still able to get to the finish line first by just one thousandths of a second, which is about 4 inches on the track.

“This win definitely was not an easy one by any stretch,” Spradlin explains. “Three blown trailer tires…a broken generator…and tire shake every pass we made. We did have our share of blessings as we battled uncharacteristic tire shake every pass all weekend. We ended up swapping Hoosier tires from our Top Sportsman car but that didn’t completely cure the problem. Tire shake is just so hard on every part of the car. That’s what caused the transmission leak.”

Spradlin put a lot of Lucas Oil transmission fluid on the track in the final round but that was not the only excitement. While the safety safari was cleaning up the aftermath a small single engine plane landed in the shutdown area of the track, turned around at the finishline and took back off.

“Man, the plane that landed during the clean-up could have been a real bad deal if the clean-up didn’t delay the racing. I’m glad no one was hurt. I need to give thanks to God and to all the companies that help us out, especially Southeastern Hose. After we signed our first deal in 2012 I came to this race and won it. That win was also my daughter’s first winner’s circle, so this race will always be special to me and my family. This was also one of those weekends where you need a win to erase all the struggles we went through,” Spradlin recalled.
