SHANE TUCKER MAKES BEST RUN OF WEEKEND IN ROUND ONE

NORWALK, OH – At the end of a busy race weekend Australian Shane Tucker and his Auzmet/StructGlass Chevrolet Camaro team looked at the last three days of the 13th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals and saw steady improvement. They did not race their way to the winner’s circle but when they stacked up their first round run against the rest of the field they know they can compete in upcoming events.

“We were racing with a brand new to us, Chevrolet Camaro this weekend,” said Tucker. “We got the car from Drew Skillman but we put our motor under the hood and there was a considerable weight difference. Our motor is heavier and we had to work all weekend to deal with the weigh transfer. That one element is so important on these race cars. We did have a good handle on it by this morning.”

In the first round racing Deric Kramer, the No. 1 qualifier, Tucker and his team posted their best run of the weekend. As Tucker raced down the right lane he was hoping to reel in Kramer but he ran out of race track. His final elapsed time was 6.634 seconds at 209.03 mph which, had he posted that time during the final qualifying session would have slotted him a couple of positions up the ladder.

“That was our best run of the weekend and if we could have gotten there a little quicker in qualifying who knows what could have happened today,” said Tucker. “We carried the wheels very high in the second session. They were a little off the ground this morning but I kept the steering wheel straight and saved the run. It was a fun race for sure.”

Yesterday Tucker’s newly designed Auzmet/StructGlass Chevrolet Camaro was recognized as “Best Appearing Car” of the event. The new look Camaro was an original design by Tucker and drew rave reviews from NHRA officials and fans alike.

“I have designed a lot of my race cars and I am really proud of this design,” added Tucker. “I get a lot of inspiration for a lot of different places. I am a big fan of F1 and how clean their race cars look. I wanted to tie that look and color into our Auzmet corporate colors. We work with a lot of different materials and we want to keep everything looking fresh. I have to thank the NHRA for this special recognition.”

The Auzmet Camaro will return to the track for the three race NHRA Western Swing kicking off at Bandimere Speedway outside of Denver on July 19-20.
