MADISON, Illinois (August 10, 2009) – It wasn’t a question of if there would ever be an all Al-Anabi Racing final round in ADRL Pro Nitrous, but a question of when it would happen. The seventh stop on the National Guard American Drag Racing League tour at the organization’s home track, Gateway International Raceway, just outside of St. Louis, Missouri would be the place it happened, and host one of the defining moments of His Highness Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Thani’s team-owning career. Madison, Il. (August 10, 2009) – Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, but even when you’re good a little luck doesn’t hurt. That’s how the Aeroquip backed team of Mike Janis felt as they left Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois after winning the ADRL Hardee’s Gateway Drags II.
The Aeroquip team made their way to the finals after qualifying his Davis Technologies equipped ’67 Firebird 10th with a 3.935 and getting by Brian Daniels in round one, Wes Johnston in round two and Frankie “The Mad Man” Taylor in the semis. Continue reading
Ipswich, Qld (August 9, 2009) Matt Able made one of the best passes of the first qualifying session with a new personal best 5.981 @241.89. A solid pass, saw him in the number one spot, unfortunately, it was short lived when he was bumped back to second. Came the start of the third and final qualifying session, Ben Bray was still on the out-side of the field but that all changed in 5.920 sec at 249 MPH. Continue reading
Elma, NY (August 6, 2009) – After Mike Janis took his first ADRL pole at the ADRL NATIONALGUARD.com U.S. Drags II two weeks ago Shannon Davis of Davis Technologies approached the team to expand their one race deal for the remainder of the season.
“The sponsorship from Davis Technologies is only made possible because of the sanctioning body we run. With traction control legal in the ADRL it’s stupid not to use it. For one, it becomes a tuning aid for the crew chief. Traction control can help save a run and it should be looked at that way. For another reason, the fans get to see less aborted runs and a better show,” said crew chief Mike Janis Jr. Continue reading
Elma, NY (August 5, 2009) – One of the most recognizable cars on the ADRL Circuit is the Tommy D’Aprile driven ‘62 Bel Air of Mel Bush. At every ADRL event the crowds gather in the pit of the Mel Bush Motorsports team with many telling Mel, Tommy, or the crew stories of the bubble top they once had.
“The car has a cult like following,” says driver Tommy D’Aprile. “Everywhere we go people love this car. If it could sign autographs I think more people would want the cars than mine.” Continue reading
O’FALLON, MO (Aug. 4, 2009) — Pro Nitrous driver Tim Savell looked out at close to 200 National Guard ADRL fans waiting in line during the recently completed ADRL NATIONALGUARD.com U.S. Drags II at Virginia Motorsports Park and it warmed his heart. Not because the thermometer was reading above 95 degrees, but because knowing those fans would wait in that heat for his autograph helped ease the sting of not qualifying to race in eliminations. O’FALLON, MO (Aug. 3, 2009) — For several weeks now, residents of Boys and Girls Town of Missouri have been earning the opportunity to attend the ADRL Hardee’s Gateway Drags II at Gateway International Raceway, just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis.
“We’re excited about being able to offer this outing to the children in our care,” said Vince Hillyer, president of Boys and Girls Town of Missouri, a nationally accredited non-profit organization that offers housing and treatment for troubled youth from all across the country. “We really appreciate everything the National Guard ADRL is doing to welcome us to what sounds like a fantastic event.” Continue reading
