Courtesy of Titan Motorsports

Orlando, FL – Summer isn’t the only thing bringing the heat in 2010. The Team from Titan Motorsports was at it again in Martin Michigan for the ADRL Summer Drags VI. Coming off of a strong win in Virginia and recently joining the Mickey Thompson 3 Second Club, Titan and the Scion came through with another dominating performance.

After a few rain delays in Martin on Friday, the track was finally cleared to begin the qualifying runs. In the first qualifying session, Gary White and the boys were just warming up, yet set the precedent for the afternoon by laying down a strong first run of 4.010 at 187.77mph, good enough for the number one qualifying position. In round two Gary nailed a career best trap speed with his 3.958 at 187.98mph! The third and fourth sessions were canceled due to more rain. Titan remained the number one qualifier.

Courtesy of PMRA

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – When Eric Latino won the Pro Modified Racing Association’s season opener at the Cayuga Dragway May 23, he became the 17th driver to win a PMRA event in the series’ six years of racing.

The win for the Port Perry, Ontario racer was his first in PMRA competition.

At present, three-time champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario has the most number of wins with five. His first win came at Lancaster in 2005 and a co-win at New York International Raceway Park near Rochester with Mike Stawicki in 2008. Boland then won three events in 2009 at Cayuga and Grand Bend.

Stawicki, of Medina, New York is next with four wins. Along with his 2008 co-win with Boland, Stawicki has won at Cayuga in 2005, and then at both Lancaster and Cayuga in 2008.

With a Runner-up Finish, Williamson Retains WCOPMA Points Lead

by Steven Bunker

Sacramento, Ca – Going into the Nitro Nite of Fire event at Sacramento Raceway last weekend, Bret Williamson, driver of the Don Carter Motorsports 1953 Studebaker, was leading the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s point’s standings after winning the first event of the season. Williamson and crew were looking at getting the car and tune-up back where it should be.

After having a stellar first outing with the car they went to Bakersfield a few weeks later and could not get the car down the track from “A-to-B” under power. Before heading to Sacramento this past weekend their goal was to get back to where they started, where they know it works. On Friday they made a descent test pass with an early shut off to see where they were. When the Friday night qualifying session came around they did not get the ‘Stude down the track after a peddling and early shutoff 7.85.

Janis Sends the WidowMaker to The Window Maker before Bristol

Courtesy of Mike Janis Racing

Elma, NY– Mike Janis’ Eaton Aeroquip backed Ford Mustang dubbed “WidowMaker” made her debut at last week’s 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ. Janis’ 2011 Ford Mustang showed promise posting a 5.941 elapsed time on her first pass. The run was good enough to post place Janis seventh in the qualifying order.

“She shook a bit after just past 60 foot and I pedaled her. She responded and was on a good run till just before the finish line when all of the sudden, BANG! So, I lifted just past the 1000 foot mark; I thought she popped the burst panel,” said Team Owner/Driver, Mike Janis.

It wasn’t the burst panel that made the noise it was the passenger window. When the car shook it loosened the upper door latch that attached the window frame to the chassis. The window was caught by the 240 mile per hour air and folded back into the door with a load bang, damaging the window and passenger door.

Stanley & Weiss Clocks A 3.75 At ADRL Martin Against Hernandez in Pro Modified

By Camp Stanley

Hagerstown, MD – The Appalachia on Steroids Camaro piloted by John Stanley has not had as good a year as the results would show. Two aborted qualifying shots in Houston garnered nothing educational for the team from the hills of Western Maryland. And then it rained and rained and rained some more! So it was on to Valdosta where more rain bright and early on Saturday morning probably saved their butts yet again! Then Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani “KH” handed them a first round win with -.002 red light. Remember that color for later on!!! The second round was lost to the bad to the bone Corvette piloted by Wild Wes Johnston running out of the Taylor Brothers Speed Emporium in Texas.

And then it was on to Richmond, Virginia for round number four of this war called ADRL Pro Extreme drag racing When the dust settled after four rounds of qualifying John found himself in the 11th qualifying spot and paired with the second team car of the Al Anabi juggernaut piloted by the legendary Todd Tutterow. At the flash of the lights on the Christmas tree John was off and gone like a shot. Meanwhile Todd suffered an uncharacteristic shake issue that saw him end up in John’s lane automatically handing the win over to John R. Stanley! The second round saw him paired against Jason Scruggs who is a bad, bad man! John’s jitters from staging against one the men who made the ADRL what it has become got the best of him and he left a red light hanging on the tree handing the win over to a tire shaking Jason. Now do you remember that color from above??? Don’t forget it yet!

Top Dragsters Lead Top Sportsman Going Into Next Quick 32 Series Race

Courtesy of Quick 32

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – Competition in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts offers a diverse range of cars and powerplants, but all cars must either race in the Top Dragster class or the Top Sportsman class.

For each Quick 32 Sportsman Series event, all the Top Dragsters (T/D) and all the Top Sportsman (T/S) cars race among themselves, and then the winning entry of each class is pitted together for an overall winner.

And to date, the Top Dragster class has the nod, with five victories in seven races to date.

Winning the first race in the series was T.J. Schippling of Shakespeare, Ontario with his dragster during the opening round at Cayuga in 2009.

Mike Stawicki and G-Force Return to PMRA Racing for 2010

Courtesy of PMRA

MEDINA, NEW YORK – Veteran Pro Modified racer Mike Stawicki has returned to the Pro Modified Racing Association for the 2010 season, and the New York native plans to run as many PMRA events as possible this year.

“We will run as many as we can,” mentioned Stawicki, who is presently second on the PMRA win list with four outright wins and a tie between 2005 and 2008.

He also holds the PMRA quarter-mile elapsed time record with a 6.049-second pass at TMP in Cayuga, Ontario in 2008.

Stawicki did not compete in the PMRA in 2009, but returned with a new Firebird-bodied Pro Modified for the season opener at the Cayuga Dragway, where qualified number one with a 6.175-second run, but spun the tires in the first round and was eliminated.

He also said he will run in several ADRL events for 2010, and recently qualified with a stout 3.80-second, 199.42-mph pass at an ADRL meet in Michigan.

Dan Myers wins the Nitro Nite of Fire

Courtesy of Dan Meyers Racing

Sacramento, Ca – When the Dan Myers Racing team rolled into Sacramento Raceway Park they were looking for a 6.2x pass to pop up on the score board. Although that never happened throughout the weekend, a couple time slips showed 6.2 passes but unfortunate parts breakage or aborted runs on the top end prevented that from happening.

Myers qualified in the fifth position and in the first round would face Mike Leonard in his 1969 Chevelle. Dan would take the win on a holeshot with a peddling 6.79 to Leonard’s peddling 6.76. The top end MOV on the time slip showed a victory of .000, it was somewhere in the ten-thousandths of a second range, so close the track’s timing system didn’t record that far down.

In the second round Dan faced Sean Renteria. Renteria left way early flashing the red light giving the easy win to the final round to Myers who was on his way to a low 6.20 or high 6-teen pass where at 5.25-seconds into the run the throttle cable broke, still he stopped the clocks with a 6.47.
