Elma, NY – While his fellow Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge competitors were competing earlier this month at the Vegas Strip, Mike Janis was back in Western New York tending to family health issues.

“Everyone seems to be OK right now but for a few weeks things got tense. I’m glad that things have stabilized right now and look forward to racing. Believe it or not the stress of racing will be relaxing this weekend,” said Janis.

In preparation for the O’Reilly Spring Nationals Janis and his Eaton Aeroquip team will head to Tulsa, OK to continue progress on their new torque converter set up. Brian Doan of BDR converters, Dave Flory of Probell Bellhousings and Mike Strasburg of B&J Transmissions have been very helpful with the conversion from clutch to converter.

BAYTOWN, TX – After qualifying eighth and advancing one round before falling to eventual winner Dan Fletcher at the recently completed NHRA 4-Wide Nationals, Roy Hill is looking for more at this weekend’s 24th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals in Baytown, TX.

Doubling your chances for a win is a great way to start.

Two Roy Hill / Phoenix Racing Super Stock Ford Cobra Jets owned by James Finch will hit Royal Purple Raceway this weekend; Hill will pilot the solid red Coca-Cola / Alsco entry he debuted in Charlotte, while Baytown native and longtime sportsman racer Dewayne Custer will drive the red, white, and blue Cobra Jet that carried Hill to the US Nationals winner’s circle last year.

The 36-year-old Custer is the shop foreman at Lastor Race Cars and has a lifetime of chassis building, tuning, and sportsman racing under his belt. He’s currently in the process of building a Super Stock Cobra Jet for Paul Candies, which sparked the multi-faceted partnership between Hill and Custer.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – For more than 30 years, the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis has signified the beginning of a busy summer of racing in the NHRA’s North Central Division. It also marks the time when Team JEGS racers shift into high gear.

Two-time Division 3 champion Mike Coughlin, his nephew Troy Jr., and future sister-in-law Samantha Kenny, will represent the yellow and black at this weekend’s event with designs on going rounds and contending for trophies

After spending much of the 2010 season recovering from hip and knee surgery, Mike Coughlin is ready to make another run at the Dart Top Sportsman championship. Mike has won two of the last five titles in the class and is eager to find the winner’s circle again with his JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt.

“We brought the car out earlier this year for the JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals in Belle Rose and it ran pretty well,” Mike said. “Now, were really looking forward to Indy. It has always been one of my favorite races.

Las Vegas, Nev. – The NHRA Fuel Coupe fraternity will expand by one driver with a familiar last name, when the 2011 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series rolls into Baytown, Texas. Jon Capps will return to the wheel of the Paul Smith Racing Team Monte Carlo bodied flopper at the 24th Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals contested at Royal Purple Raceway.

“It is a welcomed relief to finally return to the NHRA big show after a brief hiatus,” noted Capps, who currently works as an admissions counselor for WyoTech Automotive, Transportation and Technical College (http://www.wyotech.edu).

“Ever since debuting with Paul Smith’s team in April 2007, I’ve scratched and clawed for a successful return. I have had a great relationship with Paul and his team and his amazing sponsors for the past few years and I am confident we will enjoy a great weekend of racing and some hometown hospitality from our great marketing partners next weekend in Baytown.”

Feisty Coughlin knows he’s bringing a knife to a gun fight

HOUSTON, TX – Pro Mod driver Troy Coughlin knows the 366ci small block powerplant in his JEGS.com Pontiac GTO puts him at a disadvantage to all the other drivers competing in this weekend’s Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series race at Royal Purple Raceway, but the world champion drag racer believes he can hold his own during the 24th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals.

“We’re doing about all we can with this combination,” Coughlin said. “Our goal at this point is to kind of survive and stay in the mix while we wait for our new car to get here. If we can qualify and win some rounds Houston like we did in Vegas, I think we’ll all be happy with that.”

Switching to a turbocharged configuration under the guidance of crew chief Jake Hairston, Coughlin has been driving Hairston’s old racecar this season while he awaits the arrival of a similarly built Chevrolet Camaro from Jerry Bickel’s shop in St. Louis. The new Camaro will have the capacity to hold a larger engine.

Myers Unveils New Look and Attitude for 2011 Season

Courtesy of Dan Myers Racing

San Diego, CA – Dan Myers has been busy this offseason. After being in the chase last year for the 2010 West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association points’ battle and finishing in the top 5 in the number 4 spot, he looks to improve on that in the 2011 season with some new additions over the winter.

First, and the most drastic, is the addition of the screw blower poking out the hood and almost over the roof of his 1957 Chevy Cameo truck. Dan was the highest placed driver in the 2010 WCOPMA points standings that did not use a screw blower but he cracked and ditched his roots blower for 2011 and picked up this D-Rotor screw blower. Helping him put all this new power to the ground will be a new lock up style clutch.

The JEGS Mail Order team has enjoyed considerable success at Royal Purple Raceway. Jeg Coughlin Jr. won four Pro Stock titles in Houston (1997, 1998, 2000, and 2010) and the Super Stock title in 1994. John Coughlin also won the Super Gas title at the Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Houston in 1995.

In his last trip to Houston in 2010, Troy qualified his Pro Mod Camaro in the No. 9 spot with a 5.943 and lost a close round one battle against Rick Stivers, 6.04 to 6.07.

In 2010, Troy was the only driver to qualify for all ten events in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Series. He also qualified in the top half of the field four times and his average qualifying position was No. 9.
