CONCORD, NC – When Robert Chambless, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated, was looking for a way to bring his sales team together in a fun and energizing way, a day of learning the ropes of drag racing at Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School fit the bill perfectly.

On Wednesday, May 4th, Chambless and his team met at zMax Dragway just outside of Charlotte, NC, where they rode in the Roy Hill’s Drag School two and three-seater dragsters, watched a match race between Chambless and Hill in the school’s Super Comp dragsters, then took to the wheel themselves in six Roy Hill 2010 Mustangs for a full-on eliminations race between the entire team.

Troy Coughlin hoping to pick up where he left off in Atlanta

Courtesy of Jegs

ATLANTA, GA – Pro Mod driver Troy Coughlin has a simple wish for this weekend’s Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series event at Atlanta Dragway — pick up right where his JEGS.com team left off at the last tour stop in Houston.

Coughlin had his best run of the weekend in eliminations, coaxing a 6.06-second pass out of his small block, turbo-powered Pontiac GTO is a fractional loss to Danny Rowe. The past world champion Pro Street drag racer says if they can start Atlanta as strong as they finished Houston, they’ll be in great shape.

“The field in Pro Mod this year is exceptionally stout,” Coughlin said. “Every run you make needs to be as close to perfect as possible. Pro Mod gets three qualifying passes, so we have one less than the other pro categories to figure everything out, so we’re already under the gun. That really narrows your window for any corrections that may need to be made.

Red light start does little to deter Hernandez’

READING, PA – To the uninformed, Josh Hernandez’ results at last weekend’s ADRL Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags at Maple Grove might seem disappointing: the former world champion struggled to get into the field, squeaked into the field in 12th in his last qualifying attempt after failing to get down the track in his two previous attempts, and lost first round because of a dreaded false start. Hardly something to talk about.

The entire B1 Racing team sees last weekend in a completely different and much more positive light.

The team made a late decision to change from their new Murf McKiney-built C5 Corvette back to their stalwart  ’57 Chevy Bel Air, which meant removing parts, replacing parts, and re-retrofitting parts to work on the ’57. In addition, they moved to an automatic transmission from the manual they had practically perfected.

Bob McDonald preparing Suzuki for Pro Bike & Sled Series

Courtey of PBSS

WOODSTOCK, ON – Bob McDonald started his racing career on a motorcycle, then raced in several classes of cars, and has returned to racing a bike where he will be a competitor in the new Pro Bike & Sled Series for drag racing.

“I find it more economical to go fast on a bike,” he said. “It’s also easier on the wallet and a lot easier to work with a bike at the race track.

“And I think this new series will be exciting and let me go back to my bike roots.”

McDonald has raced for several decades, first on a dirt bike. He then went asphalt oval track auto racing, competing in the Can-Am Midget series, and then raced a Late Model at Delaware Speedway in Western Ontario. He also had a stint two years ago behind the wheel of a Sprint Car, racing on the clay ovals with the Southern Ontario Sprints.

ADRL Gets Record Performances At Maple Grove

Courtesy of ADRL

MOHNTON, PA – There were world records set in two American Drag Racing League (ADRL) classes in the league’s first trip to Maple Grove Raceway.

But due to a four-hour rain delay and the track curfew, the Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags did not crown winners in its five professional classes (Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, Extreme 10.5, Pro Extreme Motorcycle and Extreme Pro Stock).

Per the policy in the official ADRL rulebook, the event is considered complete and competitors will be awarded purse and points up to the finished point in the race.

Extreme Pro Stock, Pro Extreme Motorcycle and Extreme 10.5 concluded its semifinal matchups, while Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous completed their quarterfinal rounds before the event was called due to the track curfew.

ADRL Maple Grove Day 1 Yields Incredible Firsts

Courtesy of ADRL

MOHNTON, PA – On a day filled with firsts and record runs, it was only fitting that Frankie Taylor had the final say.

The 2010 American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Pro Extreme World Champion made the final pass during Friday’s second qualifying session of the Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags at Maple Grove Raceway and it turned out to be one for the history books.

Just moments after Joey Martin’s Lowmad made the quickest run in PX history with a 3.584, Taylor topped him, going an incredible 3.581 at 210.11 miles per hour to finish the day with the quickest pass in Pro Extreme history on a historic ADRL debut at Maple Grove.

“That was pretty sick,” Taylor said. “I thought Joey could run in the .50s and we said if he went faster than our (first qualifying run), we were going to try to beat him. We turned on an extra one for him.”
