Elma, NY– Dallas is the final stop on the 2011 ADRL tour and Pro Mod and Pro Extreme driver Mike Janis is looking to wrap the 2011 ADRL season up with a win… or two.

Janis, who competes in two ADRL professional classes, is looking to add to his single win this season. Janis won this inaugural ADRL Pro Modified event earlier this season in Virginia. The Janis team will enter their Andy McCoy built 70’ Duster in the Pro Extreme class and their Aeroquip backed Mustang in the Pro Modified class for the LenMar Nationals.

The LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals VII takes place on Oct. 21-23 at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. It is the final race of the 2011 season in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), and the final race to earn points for a 2011 world championship.

The PMRA Top Five for 2011 – Mark Nielsen – Number Five

Courtesy of PMRA

BRANTFORD, ON – Placing fifth in the Pro Modified Racing Association Marydel Homes Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts, Patio Passport and Global Emissions Systems, Inc. for 2011 was long-time Series competitor Mark Nielsen. He noted that he would have preferred to have finished higher in the standings, but was upbeat about his season.

“Overall I’m pleased we finished in the top five,” noted the Brantford racer. We were hoping for better results, be more consistent, and be able to make some quicker runs.”

Nielsen qualified his Nielsen Motorsports 1968 Camaro Pro Modified at each PMRA race in the season, but suffered with mechanical woes during the year. His best showings were a pair of semi-final rounds in event two and event five for 2011.

Powering the Camaro in the G-Force Race Cars product is an ERD (Engine Research & Development) 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) Supercharged Hemi backed with a Lenco three-speed transmission. A PSI supercharger sits atop the engine, which is fueled through an ERD fuel system. Randy Gronlund, Richard Ruysseveldt, Dave Ross, Natalia Kalivodova and Rachel Ross crewed for the team this season, whom he thanked for their efforts.

ENNIS, TX  – B1 Racing Pro Extreme driver Josh Hernandez, the winningest Pro Mod driver in history, is anxious to add two more wins to his heavyweight resume this weekend in the ADRL Battle for the Belts and the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals VII at Texas Motorplex. In the past two seasons, Hernandez has been to the championship round in the Battle for the Belts, both times taking runner-up honors. This time, the Texas native is planning to close the season with a one-two knockout punch.

“It’s two races for one this weekend, and our goal as a team is to finish the season strong and show them what B1 Racing is all about,” Hernandez said. “We brought on the new Corvette late in the season, and without the chance to fully test, we struggled a little to get her into shape. Now we’re running great thanks to all of the hard work the whole team has put in.”

At the last race, Hernandez had his best finish of the year, taking runner-up honors and jumping into contention in the BFTB. Because he is in eighth place, Hernandez will face off against No. 7 finisher, hard-running Jason Scruggs in the first round.

JEGS team has a million reasons to savor Montgomery trip

MONTGOMERY, AL – The lure of an enormous paycheck and the opportunity to race against world-class competition has led JEGS Mail Order teammates Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Troy Coughlin Jr. to Montgomery Motorsports Park for this weekend’s 16th annual Nitro Fish Million Dollar Drag Race.

One of the crown jewels of high stakes E.T. bracket racing, the Million Dollar Drag Race offers competitors a chance to win a life-changing amount of money, perhaps as much as a million dollars, for winning a single event.

The Nitro Fish Million Dollar Drag Race features several support events offering a generous $20,000 top prize, but the real attraction is the main event, which boasts one of the largest payouts in drag racing. The entry fee is a stiff $2,000, and drivers who are defeated in the first or second round have the option to “buy back” into the field for an additional $500, creating an enormous prize pool. If 500 competitors enter the main event, the champion will receive $1 million, one of the largest single-day paydays in all of motorsports.

WARTBURG, ON – Considering he had never been in a dragster until earlier this year, Billy White did an admirable job in 2011 Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition, piloting his RE/MAX Top Dragster to a fifth place in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts Championship Point Award Series Standings.

As co-owner and team driver of the White and Wild Racing Team, White had the fortune of learning how to drive from team member Scott Wildgust, one of the veteran racers in the Series.

“This has been an enjoyable year for me,” noted White, who placed fifth in the season with 1122 points. “I had never driven anything faster than a street car before I got into the dragster. I have to thank Scott for his teaching and guidance.”

After acquiring his driving license, White qualified number five at the season’s first event, no small feat in a field of strong competition.

Davis Destined for Dallas and ADRL World Finals

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — After winning the VP Racing Fuels Top Sportsman Shootout Oct. 1, during the 37th annual NHRA Doorslammer National Open at Ohio Valley Dragway in Kentucky, veteran drag racer Ronnie Davis wrapped up his 2011 NHRA campaign with a number-one qualifying effort last weekend.

Davis ran 6.502 seconds at 210.70 mph over the quarter mile at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA, to earn the top spot in a field of 24 Top Sportsman entries for the final NHRA Division 2 race of the year.

“Unfortunately, we broke something at the top end of that (qualifying) pass and were unable to fix the car at the track,” the defending Div. 2 class champion said as he now turns his attention to the ADRL season ender Oct. 21-23, at the Texas Motorplex.

“We’re focused now on preparing my other car, the black Tommy Mauney-built ’63 Corvette with its awesome Roush Yates power, and I’m looking forward to making some eighth-mile runs with it in Dallas.”
